𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
how is tofu or spam "adventurous"?? also crab??? sardines? come on guys lmao

DE❤LOSE
oh my god... this is the saddest list of adventurous food i've seen

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
the only ones I haven't tried are haggis, foie gras, squirrel, and durian

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I want to try haggis and durian. I guess I'd eat squirrel if I could find it. not really into the idea of foie gras because I'd feel bad...

DE❤LOSE
i didn't even know what foie gras and haggis were until now... all understandable

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I think I've had like. a durian flavored cookie as a sample once but I should try it for real

DE❤LOSE
you have tried many things according to this list

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
DE❤LOSE
: yeah I had to Google exactly what haggis is. I'd only heard it as an example "gross food" but wasn't sure exactly what goes into it. foie gras sounds delicious in theory but I'd feel guilty...

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
most of these boil down to "things found in various Asian cuisine"

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
which seems a little. hmm.

DE❤LOSE
yeah i picked up on that... "adventurous!"

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I'm genuinely curious about squirrel now tho haha

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i'm still baffled by tofu and spam. and crab?! crab isn't adventurous!! it's commonly found in whitebread american restaurants too lmao what

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
and "oxtail" is just beef

Azure ☪ Moon
crab "looks scary" since it comes with the shell on a lot

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
stares

Rai
This list just looks like a trip to a T&T supermarket

Azure ☪ Moon
speaking as a supertaster who is also autistic I can confirm that most of this list is a no-go for me. I've had like four things on it... too many texture issues

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
idk what that is! but yeah most of it I could easily find in a number of groceries nearby and eat regularly. I just think it's stupid that it's basically a list of vaguely Asian foods

Rai
BC Asian supermarket. I camped out in their food court many a uni day

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
it's cool if people don't like foods or don't want to try them because of flavor or texture reasons! I just think it's kind of racist to call anything that's not bread and chicken breast "adventurous" I guess :\

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
Rai
: nice! that makes sense. and yeah... basically my point

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I get cranky about "weird food" conversations I guess lmao

slurm lord
yeah i feel this

slurm lord
let's go eat squirrel together im curious too

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I bet I can find some somewhere around here 👀 let's go!! someday..... 😭

slurm lord
someday........

slurm lord
i can find em in my backyard

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
there's a really good sausage place in downtown that serves rabbit and snake, and I think other game meats. maybe they'll have squirrel sometime

Rai
Well I wanted an excuse to go after a certain squirrel...

slurm lord
oooh i haven't had either

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I just googled how it tastes and it sounds delicious...

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
runs outside to catch a squirrel

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
they're so mean though. they'd win in a fight...

slurm lord
lure them in with peanuts until they're tame and then swiftly betray them

Rai
traps

Rai
they love walnuts so sucker em in

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I also love walnuts I'll probably eat them all!! hahaha

slurm lord
the squirrel will steal them because you're easily bullied by them

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
this is true... they regularly made me give up my study spots in college because they had dominion over all the trees and therefore the shade 😔

Spooky Mulder
Most of these are quite normal things!! Though lol I've only had 4 of them.

Spooky Mulder
I guess durian is a bit of an adventure just because it's such an aquired taste? I try it again every time I go to Malaysia to see if I've changed my mind about it but every time so far I've disliked it. It's the texture.

Spooky Mulder
Haggis isn't uncommon at all here

Spooky Mulder
Or eels

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i love eel, though I've only tried the Japanese kind. I'm curious about jellied eels...

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i'm really curious about durian and it's not even hard to find around here but I just want to try a little and i don't think anyone wants to split it with me lmao. maybe someday i'll find a small quantity to try somewhere.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i feel the same way about mango though. I keep trying it and i haven't changed my mind. though I did have a bit of really good mange dessert recently that I didn't hate so maybe i'll come around someday haha

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
it just has a really wonky aftertaste to me. same with papaya. so idk if i'd like durian?? tho i guess it has little in common with those fruits afaik

Spooky Mulder
It has quite a strong taste and you can taste it for ages and ages after you've eaten it ahah. I'd say the taste of durian is okay though, but whenever I've had it the texture is kind of mushy and I don't like mushy. Idk about where you are but in Malaysia sometimes you can get it in small boxes! Rather than the whole giant fruit.

Spooky Mulder
I wouldn't say it's anything like mango or papaya

Spooky Mulder
And yes!! If you're ever in London get the jellied eels, most pubs by the river have it.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i've seen it in some dessert places. i just gotta find a friend who wants to split it with me someday haha

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i'm very curious about the jellied eels! i hope i can visit london someday, that'd be awesome

Spooky Mulder
I have no idea what it tastes like obvs ahah but I know lots of people who say it's good.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i've had jellied tongue and it was delicious... that doesn't have much to do with eels, except i didn't think i'd like the "jellied" part but it was good!

Spooky Mulder
Yeah the jellied part doesn't sound great but I think it's the idea that jelly is usually sweet? Idk.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i don't mind the idea of savory jelly! i thought I would dislike the clash of textures tbh, but it wasn't unpleasant to me. i guess when i think of meat jelly it's like... congealed broth i need to warm up hahaha

PirateTaiga
how on earth is tofu adventurous? sauerkraut I can get a little, not everyone likes pickles... but tofu?

hannya
I am uncultured peasant because I don't even know what some of these things on list are

hannya
but lmao, tofu? sardines??? duck????

hannya
the big adventure of eating that Quack Monster

hannya
where is goose

❀ 𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐓 𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑
kimchi? wth

♔amber
i don't know if i can handle foie gras just psychologically

♔amber
i hear durian is pretty smelly

❀ 𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐓 𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑
i’ve heard foie gras stinks too

PirateTaiga
not the one I ate, it's just super super greasy

PirateTaiga
(all that fat is the point but still)

❀ 𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐓 𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑
oooh

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
yeah durian is notoriously stinky, but if it tastes good I don't mind. as long as it doesn't taste like it smells... like stinky tofu..... (sorry tina)

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
but i eat many smelly cheeses hahaha

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
yeah half this list is just really common food someone thought was "icky" and i'm squinting

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
still laughing at spam, tofu and sardines. literally found in every supermarket. c'mon!! i also just noticed SCALLOPS?!

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i didn't even notice that one last night

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
hannya
: i rly wanna try goose someday!! i've never had it but i've heard it's like extra delicious duck and duck is already delicious

hannya
roasted goose is so good!!!

slurm lord
I've never had goose either...

slurm lord
scallops blew my mind because they're just so... common... and easy to buy in a grocery store. you'd have to not eat seafood in general not to have tried it at least once

slurm lord
maybe whoever compiled this list wanted some easy mode options???

Rai
Goose is great

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
yeah crab and scallops made me ??? sardines and anchovies are common but I know the flavor is very strong and they tend to be really salty and oily because of how they're canned so even though I don't think they're "adventurous" I can see why a lot of people dislike them

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
crab and scallops aren't uncommon or "weird" at all. they are expensive sometimes but... again. adventurous??? hm.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
slams fists on table I WANNA EAT A GOOSE

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
JUST LIKE IN A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Azure ☪ Moon
Location can be a thing too. I live in Kansas so seafood isnt always great/tends to be expensive if it is

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
I completely understand why it'd be difficult to get ahold of and cost prohibitive. but adventurous is certainly not the word imo

Rai
anchovie and sardine nigiri aren't bad

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
i've never tried them as sushi. i've had anchovies in kimchi over rice, which was pretty good. and sardines I just get at the italian market and eat with bread :9

ᴡᴏʟᴠɪᴇ.
I fully know what you mean lmao I still remember when they made ppl eat balut on fear factor like it was a horrific thing...im like that's literally a delicacy for us

ᴡᴏʟᴠɪᴇ.
i truly don't care what ppl personally like or dislike but making ~adventurous lists like this tends to just be a thinly veiled way of saying asian food is weird

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
yyyep pretty much. if it's presented in a way that encourages trying new food and celebrating different cuisine that maybe people haven't heard of, that's one thing. but the framework of "this is weird and wacky and you have to be BRAVE and ADVENTUROUS to eat it" just makes me feel. hm. thinking emoji.

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
now I'm thinking of actually "adventurous" food I've had and I remembered suddenly the time I ate ... escargot and black caviar on top of nacho cheese Doritos, served in the actual cut-off Dorito bag

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
that was a truly unusual food LMAO

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
the most adventurous food I've ever seen has been at county fairs

PirateTaiga
two of the truly adventurous food did not make it to this list: mushrooms and fugu

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
oh yes, fugu deserves the label adventurous a lot more than scallops!

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
mushrooms?? like the drugs kind or do you just dislike mushrooms so they're on your personal list hahaha

PirateTaiga
mushrooms like there are so many types of mushrooms in Poland that are edible and as much that could kill you. some look almost identical. so picking mushrooms is adventure

PirateTaiga
and I love mushrooms so much I'm almost half-hobbit

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
oh wow. I didn't even consider you could eat mushrooms you find on your own... for precisely that reason, so you're right. adventurous!

PirateTaiga

PirateTaiga
mushrooms from my garden (they just spontaneously started growing there)

PirateTaiga
slightly nommed by snails because snails love them

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
wow! that's really cool

PirateTaiga
Suillus grevillei - Wikipedia

PirateTaiga
found them

𝔥𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 🗡️
they must be attracted to you because you're a fun guy (;

Azure ☪ Moon
Ooo neat mushroom!

PirateTaiga
