Fuck Apple. 11 days before Halloween. Heartless.

Misha
seriously. It was an annual tradition for me and the kids, even though they're grown

Misha
guess I'm going to try to find them on dvd to get them for posterity

Peanut Leg
Yep

Peanut Leg
We have them on the DVR as well as hard copies because they get watched every day here. But it's not the same.

dkronfeld
What happened?

Peanut Leg
Apple purchased all (or at least the most popular) Peanuts holiday specials. They will no longer be on network tv or other streaming services, only Apple TV. They are huge traditions here for many.

Anke
I'm positive if you find some friendly internet pirates, they'll help make this tradition continue.

dkronfeld
Yeah, I looked that up. It looks like they'll be streaming for free, each one a day or a few days before their respective holiday.

Peanut Leg
Uh huh. Not the same, Dave. And not everyone has access to their service, even though it is pretty broad.

Peanut Leg
Anke
- I don't steal. Ever. Not even a little.

dkronfeld
Not the same as what?

Peanut Leg
I can't explain the value of a tradition to a family to someone outside that family. It's just not the same, trust me. Many people who still have access are upset as could be. Access has zero to do with it. It's just not cool, especially given how fucked-up the holidays are looking. And, of course, not everyone will still have access.

dkronfeld
I still don't understand what's missing though. If watching the show isn't the issue then what has changed that makes it worse this way for you?

Peanut Leg
Once again, can't explain it.

Peanut Leg
Lalala

dkronfeld
I guess? You could try though, by explaining what it would take for it to be good for you again. What's changed that makes it not good. I'm not asking you to tell me why it's not good, only explain the thing that is different that makes it not good. (You don't, of course, have to explain anything)

Peanut Leg
I'm going to stab you now, Dave. Elbow or knee? Your choice. I get to choose which side.

Peanut Leg
Anke
- Sorry about that, I know you were joking. It's a touchy subject to me but that's no reason for me to be a dick.

It’s like when the Wizard of Oz was only on at Easter - it was an event to watch it. Or when fireworks were only on the 4th of July intead of every weekend at the ballpark. Anytime, anywhere can rob something of some of what makes it special. It’s a very generational thing, probably.

dkronfeld
🔹nkaru🔹
: I actually get that, but that's not really what's changed right now. These have been available on demand for years.

isle
holy shit, that is devious

🔹nkaru🔹
dkronfeld
: I guy uses it’s just the feeling of the once a year, here it is, commercials and everything, expectation of it. Hot and cold running Wizard of Oz sorta ruined some of the specialness for me. Constant fireworks, too. Don’t know if that what it is for
Peanut Leg
, but I’m a cranky old fart.

dkronfeld
Yeah, I really do get that, but that hasn’t been the case for (literally) generations

Peanut Leg
Actually, it has. Everyone I know watches the broadcast of it despite its availability elsewhere. The broadcast is a big deal to many. Don't you have a moose to fuck or something?

dkronfeld
So it's not the availability of streaming, but the lack of broadcast that's the problem.

Misha
There's this whole thing called tradition and continuity... My kids are in their 20s, and until this year, will have always come home so we can watch it together on network TV...

Misha
Its probably the only thing with commercials that I will watch all year. Kinda like the cartoon of the "Grinch that stole Christmas" same deal

Peanut Leg
Sit down, moose fucker!

Anke
I get the tradition, I am a big fan of Rudolph during Christmas too. I think it's just one of those traditions they're forcing us to change and it won't feel the same. On demand is fine but I think there's some buried romanticism in the scheduled morning runs, the immediacy forcing people together to be present.
