Neo Quinn
I have like a quarter of a concept for a tabletop game
Neo Quinn
Inspired by the sci-fi novel Hyperion
Neo Quinn
an abstract storygame about a group of people on a journey to visit the devil
Neo Quinn
the following things are known to be true at the start of the game:
Neo Quinn
- At the end of the road, they will meet the devil.
Neo Quinn
- The devil will grant any who reaches it one wish
Neo Quinn
- Only one of them will make it to the end of the road alive
Neo Quinn
The game plays in rounds
Neo Quinn
in each round, each character takes the spotlight once
Neo Quinn
they can use it to reveal something about their past, or what they're wishing for, or how they got here
Neo Quinn
then, at the end of the round, one of them dies
Neo Quinn
the method of their death is up to them
Neo Quinn
the devil does not just show up and kill everyone one by one like a slasher villain
Neo Quinn
the certain truth is not that the devil will kill all but one of them, just that all but one of them will die
Neo Quinn
this is how it always happens
Neo Quinn
all details of the world, including tech level and laws of reality, are left unclear at the start, and only filled in as characters start expanding their stories and the world they take place in
Uncle Royd
/quietly singing the Wonderful Wizard of Oz off to one side
Neo Quinn
when only one character is left alive, they meet the devil
Neo Quinn
the devil is played by whoever died first
Neo Quinn
I don't know what happens then
Neo Quinn
perhaps the rules have no sway over it
Neo Quinn
and the story's resolution is determined entirely by the last player and the devil
Neo Quinn
the game has no GM
Uncle Royd
I imagine it has to do with what that character's story is
Uncle Royd
This sounds wild though
Uncle Royd
How do you determine who dies? Is it just luck of the draw?
Neo Quinn
I'm not sure
Neo Quinn
part of the inspiration was a very different game Dragomorph found on
Download the latest indie games
Neo Quinn
itchio
Neo Quinn
about a group of adventurers getting killed one by one in a battle with a giant spider
Neo Quinn
all your moves are things like revealing your tragic backstory and the promises you made before the battle and shit
Neo Quinn
and every single character absolutely dies
Neo Quinn
there is no game mechanic allowing anyone to not be killed by the giant spider
despairmas ❆
this sounds dope ngl
Neo Quinn
I think each turn is one night
Neo Quinn
and each person asks one question to another player, off a list
Neo Quinn
things like
Neo Quinn
- What are you going to ask of the devil?
Neo Quinn
- When did you meet the devil once before?
Neo Quinn
- What did you lose that drove you to seek out the devil?
Neo Quinn
- Who among us are you keeping a secret from?
Neo Quinn
Some characters might be disinclined to answer such questions, but
Neo Quinn
there's something about a campfire in the final days of this journey
Neo Quinn
that makes secrets slip to the surface
Neo Quinn
perhaps it's the fact that most of you will be dead soon
Neo Quinn
perhaps it's the devil's influence
Echo
Shit, I like it.
