REPLURK FRIENDLY POLL: would you find it fun if someone’s good end wish deleted everyone’s capacity to murder, throughout all of imeeji as well as every connected world/universe
a girl in love
- other forms of death would still exist
- you could still get mauled, you just wouldn’t die from it
☆★☆★
On the receiving end, absolutely, though I wouldn't do it myself
a girl in love
ultimately regardless of the reaponse to this plurk the outcome is completely the mods’ decision and will almost certainly not happen but
a girl in love
I just think it would be like the fuckin best thing ever,
mitzi
i love wishes that affect others more than the person. with the wish.
mitzi
in this case tho i think i would opt out of it just bc i have a thirst for murdering. specifically murdering. tho. but i do like the idea a lot dmkldmsdkl
mitzi
i guess more it's one of those things that are actually an amazing idea on a big scale but on a small, greedy, selfish scale they would affect me in a way i prob wouldn't like to play with as much
mitzi
i do think it would be interesting to find ways around it but i think i would get tired of that after awhile
a girl in love
I too love murder but in this case I would consider it a worthy sacrifice
mitzi
also would it affect new characters coming in after that?
a girl in love
since ppl generally come back when they die in imeeji I also find it to be a very negligible difference between death vs incapacitating someone by chopping their limbs off or knocking them out or some such, but I do also see how having proper murder also holds other appeals in an imeeji context
chilly pepper
i love this but also idk how logically it would work
a girl in love
that is sadly the problem with a lot of big overarching things like this tho is that there are just gonna be so many different players with different individual needs that they’re all bound to be extremely likely to trip on fucking up someone’s fun
chilly pepper
but also horrifying implications for when i inevitably reapp nychta and she eats someone again.
a girl in love
a girl in love
ICONIC
chilly pepper
if we ever wanted to see nychta cry like a little bitch i guess this is the most straightforward way
sleeping lion
i think it is a cool idea like, in theory, I would like it a lot in a story, but I would not like it in rp
mitzi
yeah... like honestly i would support the idea even if it would actually infringe on my own personal fun because it WOULD be such a big thing and would be interesting, at least for awhile, but i would def would... still miss the fun of shanking my cr for funsies sometimes
chilly pepper
game-wise i think it'd work best as like, opt-in limited imperviousness
sleeping lion
I would be ok with it as a short-term plot, but I would find it really unfun long-term
chilly pepper
canon explanation imeeji's wish infrastructure fucking sucks actually theres a lot of bugs
mitzi
yeah and i imagine it being short term would not be as satisfying for the wish maker side too, which sucks
chilly pepper
get murdered like 2x and you're undying but then on the third the wish gives out bc the servers can't handle the data input anymore,
sleeping lion
I think it would matter a lot how it was presented esp OOCly because while I enjoy a lot of like "you get mauled but cannot die" in a super gross game where I feel comfortable indulging in that as a gross kink in itself, in a game like imeeji it feels liiiike
sleeping lion
there's not an atmosphere where I'm as comfortable with that as a whole, tho I am comfortable and already use things to a similar effect on a smaller scale like /looks at vergil using common law to fight thancred with no consequences
sleeping lion
and I don't necessarily want to play out the bigger consequences of doing murders in imeeji much, so it could be ok???
sleeping lion
so like, OOC framing is a lot cause my kneejerk instinct was fear that if it was long-term it'd be used to deter pvp more, rather than just make it easier to do w/out death plot
sleeping lion
but also I'm just a butt who doesn't like having my options restricted in general...
𝚁𝙴𝙰
while i really enjoy the prospect of something someone did having very long-standing results, i would not join a game or have fun in a game i am currently in if it was enforced that you could no longer do a specific thing because someone else that you never had interactions with made it that way
𝚁𝙴𝙰
the other options of Murder of incapacitation are either boring for me (incapacitation) or a hard no squick list do not do this (cutting off their limbs)
mitzi
ye that's what i was kind of thinking of when i asked if it would apply to new characters apping in--because it might be satisfying to experience the Murder Land before and have that taken away, i don't think coming in and being like "well i can't stab someone now" would be nearly as interesting to play with
a girl in love
ooc framing being super key is real ya
a girl in love
this is a hypothetical so the way I specifically envisioned it in my head isn’t really important, but for me I was thinking like, you can literally do all the same shit but it’s just if you were to stab someone in the heart or sth the knife would slide a few centimeters to the left and miss a lethal blow
a girl in love
or if you strangle someone your hands let up on their own after they pass out but before they die
a girl in love
cuz that’s how Reaper’s ‘canon’ powers basically worked
a girl in love
so it’s the first thing my mind went to
eyjaberry 🐑(🦁)
i think it's all moe
a girl in love
I think I sort of but don’t entirely get the thing abt new characters only bc I’m like if it were like added on the general information pages for the game that people do not die if they are killed then doesn’t that give potential new appers the option to decide if that function of the setting is something they want or don’t want to app into?
mitzi
yeah ofc and if you are apping in you are basically agreeing to play by the rules, but i don't think it would have the same weight is all
a girl in love
but that is coming from a place of 1. thinking of it like basically everyone is Reaper now so it doesn’t really feel like that much of a limitation of options/actions to me 2. I have apped into so many games where I didn’t care for the death handling and also don‘t care much for imeeji’s death handling,
a girl in love
revivals are a good mechanic but in my heart all I want is permadeath or bust
mitzi
i definitely try to stick with as much "dying/killing is actually important" stuff icly as i can bc i don't particularly enjoy the "i've died so any times it's just meh" mind state for my own characters but like i said, selfishly on my own small scale i would really miss the ability to tenderly stab my cr in the heart
mitzi
so in the end i guess narrative wise it's honestly very fascinating and i'm not horribly against it, but for me personally it affects one of the parts of rp i tend to enjoy the most, SO IDK I AM NO HELP I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT
a girl in love
in hindsight the fact that I dislike innately impermanent death setting builds probably also contributes to my opinion here a lot.
a girl in love
gaelio: NO THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE
a girl in love
I just wanted to open discussion about it because it is very reasonably not actually going to happen, but also I think it would be hysterical
sleeping lion
I like playing out death trauma and I also like the aspect of getting "used to" death but only when it's played as like. intense trauma and dissociation and not just not giving a fuck. and I've never been interested in permadeath mechanics cause again I guess I just dislike limitations of that nature
sleeping lion
I think for me what I like wrt death in rp has a lot to do w/tone, and I think how it's treated can heavily influence tone
sleeping lion
if I see permadeath on a short-term game its fine cause you're not meant to be in for long haul arcs anyway. if its a light-hearted game having permadeath seems like a reasonable way to smack people away from ruining it.
sleeping lion
but if the game is darker, longterm, AND has permadeath it feels very restrictive in that I feel like I'm being asked to choose between engaging with the tone fully and playing characters longterm
a girl in love
yeah that makes sense to me
sleeping lion
or like, ofc you can play bad shit w/out death but I get the sense I'm not being trusted to play an arc the way I like to w/out infringing on other people?
a girl in love
it isn’t PERSONALLY a problem I have bc I generally have trouble maintaining characters for long stretches anyway, so I don’t mind the thought of them getting the axe for a murder plot
sleeping lion
ye I rarely keep characters more than a year but I'd be v frustrated to basically see fun things happening that are things I enjoy but know if I engage w/it I have to drop
a girl in love
for me the appeal of permadeath is the aspect of having to grapple with loss, which is harder to do in a short format game, esp since a lot of short format games with death tend to have a lot going on so there’s not much time to sit around and be sad or anything
sleeping lion
yeah thats fair! I guess thats just smth I'd be more interested in in a psl
a girl in love
ironically I did get to play with that a little in popdrop bc my character DOESN’T know death isn’t permanent yet and so freaked out when his cr almost died. that was fun
a girl in love
I can’t do psls at all weeps
sleeping lion
but more to the original topic I think it hits the same emotional button for me in that I feel like it doesn't add anything to my experience in most cases, it only restricts. since I'm not really interested in grieving arcs, so I just lose options
sleeping lion
it works in popdrop because I can use it as kink fodder but it's still not an aspect I actually like, I'm just not particularly bothered by if cause it works in the setting
sleeping lion
not being able to psl does make it harder!!
sleeping lion
for me tho there's just a big gap between what I wanna do in a game or with psl/fic
sleeping lion
since games are ongoing and shift a lot, I want to be more adaptable and go with the flow and I don't enjoy mechanics that box me in too much, but I like games for the chance to have varied cr and external events unpredictably nudging the narrative
sleeping lion
but if I have a really specific thing I wanna do w/out interruption I wouldn't want to in a game, esp if it's meant to be profound because games usually either don't give me time to dedicate to profound meaningful examinations or they throw it at me repeatedly in a way where it stops being fun? idk I'm having too many words
sleeping lion
my point is I just like being able to do what I want to a reasonable extent in rp and the instant I feel like I am being asked to adhere to someone else's preferences in a way that isn't necessary for the game's narrative/tone I go to space
sleeping lion
but I've also had bad experiences in being like. shamed for not adhereing to someone else's aesthetic even when it didn't affect the other person at all so im defensive
a girl in love
space Cleo
a girl in love
that all makes a lot of sense tho
a girl in love
I don’t have as much experience with different types of games as you do bc I’ve basically just been in like, teamnesia, court, and thusia, none of which had permadeath (and rightly so) so I don’t even like, know in what sort of tone or setup it would really be effective/appropriate to include it in the game
a girl in love
I have now solidly derailed my own plurk but it’s my plurk and I can do what I want
a girl in love
and tbh what makes me sad abt revival mechanics is in fact that the option for anyone to STAY dead is pretty much eliminated so I feel like in essence I understand ur restriction feelings from the opposite end here somehow
a girl in love
a game where there can be revivals but also permadeath doesn’t have the “dies in a cutscene” aura would truly be the ideal
mitzi
i will say that i love the idea of being allowed to perma kill my characters. a bad end, to match good ends. and i enjoy apping into games with the expectation oocly that there is perma death, and have been wanting it
mitzi
but in imeeji specifically i think i would much rather permadeath be opt in, and that permadeath for everyone be a mechanic for a game from the start
a girl in love
permadeath is def not on the table for imeeji I don’t think
a girl in love
unless there’s something Mora and Youji aren’t telling me.
a girl in love
what are the mods planning Katy.
mitzi
I want to say "new drop option, your character gets fucking obliterated while doing something cool and dramatic or super stupid and then doesn't ever come back and has no fun afterlife party"
God of Brats
new drop option "lilith just keeps them"
God of Brats
anyways since i know the origins of this question i feel like my opinion is a bit null, and also i'm getting sleep beamed
God of Brats
but i, personally, think that eliminating Murder from the multiverse is hilarious
God of Brats
maybe someone else can wish it back into existence when they graduate--
a girl in love
some kind and benevolent soul who understands that the people must kill
It's Just Deca
Yeah I would say no to this one. If only because I do have like. Prospects of playing murder and part of what I do want to play with is the morality of murder for no reason in a world where it doesn't rob you of a person
a girl in love
gaelio: god that would be amazing though.
a girl in love
I will say also that any permadeath or no murder feature of any kind would be difficult to implement in imeeji if for no further reason than
a girl in love
what the fuck would happen in betrayal 4 then
mitzi
i have always had dreams of dropping a character after a cool death before they get revived so they never come back but it's always felt too self indulgent so i have always been a coward. but it, or a permanent death of some kind in that manner, are always on my bucket list LMAOOOO
a girl in love
I’ll kill u one day
mitzi
thank u very much
eyjaberry 🐑(🦁)
MOVING
i personally loathe the idea on such a deep level im having trouble examining it but. puts hand on ur shoulder.
MOVING
i think as a player who usually never gets involved in plot stuff i don't much like the idea of big setting traits falling on players to start with 8|a that just seems like too much power and too strong a precedent to set for that kind of thing
MOVING
and obvs i don't mind death denial as a setting thing, gestures at popdrop, but having it Imposed Out Of Nowhere
MOVING
would rustle my jimmies something fierce
MOVING
im reminded of the TYL plot in soul campaign suddenly, where the whole game was dragged into a timeskip plot for what felt like a very long time and there was not really an opportunity to opt out
MOVING
and it was. wew.
MOVING
and that was at least temporary
MOVING
"tree why are you dragging out ancient rp anecdotes" i have OPINIONS FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE
MOVING
but yeah i guess any setting change to the degree of making me feel like "hey wait that's not the game i apped into" being up to players is a big no for me
MOVING
like ofc there would be mod involvement in this hypothetical but u get me
WANDERER
I basically almost never do murder on either end but I would dislike it a lot, and I also think it's not a situation in which "the wish glitches" would work, as it would prove ICly that wishes are not actually reliable and thus open a whole another can of worm
WANDERER
it's basically a thing that imho cannot work at all with a opt-out, because if it is opt-out, then it's not absolute, and so characters have proof that the wishes don't work, actually
WANDERER
and having it forced on everyone restricts people's play choice
dragillionaire
as someone who is playing someone who will PROBABLY BE MURDERED IN THE FUTURE I would definitely like to be able to play with that and the consequences thereof
dragillionaire
and I just am generally not sure how that would work out in a game like imeeji? like I feel that would make at least one of HSS's abilities moot
dragillionaire
deli also raises a good point about the opt-out/opt-in making the wish payout seem flawed or unlikely to work. in that case, would characters even be inclined to take the vengeance option?
tandemarie
I WOULD NOT BE A FAN for reasons that everyone has stated; there's also something about someone's wish having this much power in a game (where i thought wishes couldn't effect any other characters) affecting everything on such a large scale, it's narratively off-putting
tandemarie
I FEEL LIKE IF THIS HAPPENED WAY EARLIER IN THE GAMES RUN it'd be neat but something about it happening this late would also be,
a girl in love
oh good point about hss’s powerset too I forgot
a girl in love
I now do not remember what the restrictions were on how much wishes can impact other characters or not, I feel like I do vaguely remember that being a thing but am not sure if there were official boundaries written out or what those were or if it was just an internal discussion of like how to keep things playable
a girl in love
I have a bad ex-mod memory
mitzi
i have a wish that affects another, but it is WAY smaller in scale and very simple, and got both the mods permission + the permission of the person in question for it
a girl in love
yeah I feel like Ayano might have also had a wish that impacted other kagepros in particular tho I also don’t remember what that was now
dragillionaire
I do think in concept for like. a story. that it would be narratively really cool. or if it was something you were doing with a small group of friends and it was agreed upon that wishes could impact each other in such a large way from the start, that it would be okay, that would be fine.
dragillionaire
if someone really wanted to do something like this in imeeji they mighy be able to do a "no one can murder x, y or z" sort of deal with the players' permission as opt-in.
