Flash Bastard
[on the topic of undergarments] Does such a thing as decently inexpensive plus-size underwear that lasts more than three wears exist?
Flash Bastard
Quinn's been striking out lately (Hanes has decidedly failed them).
Flash Bastard
Quinn, this morning: I'm gonna put underwear for me on my next shop list.
me: I really wish you could buy unders that last more than like, a month.
Quinn: Sorry...
me: I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at whoever decided fat people don't get good underwear.
Flash Bastard
(Because seriously, however one comes to need these sizes, you can't just not wear underwear until you drop the weight...)
Flash Bastard
I should note, boxers are completely acceptable in Quinn's eyes, so don't hold back if you have a suggestion 'but it's men's unders.'
Flash Bastard
This may also be running into the Vimes Boots Theory of Economic Unfairness, but either way.
cacopheny
do you guys put your underwear in the dryer? my mum swears that makes them last longer, if you don't use the dryer, and my mum is definitely plus size
Flash Bastard
We do put it in the dryer.
cacopheny
maybe try laying them out to dry instead, see if that helps
Flash Bastard
Quinn has some older pairs that are still holding up all right, but we get new ones and they shred apart from the elastic in record time.
Flash Bastard
Sometimes having been washed once upon purchase.
Flash Bastard
Air drying... might be an option once we get new stuff, but I dunno if Quinn would want to start now. This also counts on me remembering, which I may not.
Flash Bastard
And on Quinn wanting to try it, which they may not...
cacopheny
also I checked my brands (dunno if I'm plus sized enough to count, but I'm not little) and the ones that have lasted best are http://it.se.bit.se/..., Bali, and "the best fitting panties" it seems
cacopheny
wow, uh, it se bit se with dots between them
cacopheny
and I have no idea how uch they cost cuz my mum bought the bali and best-fitting, and I bought the it se bit se ones years ago
Flash Bastard
Thanks for the help there, plurk. XD
Flash Bastard
And sincere thanks, Gail, any option helps.
cacopheny
hope it does help <3
sailor bii
yeah, i've noticed this about hanes these days
sailor bii
fruit of the loom has generally worked better for me when it comes to panties these last couple years
sailor bii
i'm also in favor of innersy rainbow 7-pack of boxer briefs, although that's a little more expensive at like 33 bucks or so per seven-pack
Flash Bastard
If '20 bucks for three pairs of unders' ever feels attainable again, I'll definitely get more Jockeys for myself. I got a few pairs in high school and they lasted... I think until we moved out here, certainly to Hartford.
Flash Bastard
But yeah, my Hanes are holding up somewhat better (same dryer treatment) but I have had a couple pairs trying to shred at the seams.
Flash Bastard
Listen, Guys, Quality Matters
cacopheny
I have noticed this with socks, too. I have a few remaining pairs of socks from college, 20 years ago, but the ones I bought more recently are just shredding at an alarming rate.
sailor bii
they don't make clothes like they used to, man
Flash Bastard
"No one will care if it's still cheap, right?"

izod boxers hold up pretty well in my experience
ʚ angel baby ɞ
I have this exact same experience with the elastic
herdivineshadow
I get mine at Marks and Spencers but I'm not sure that that's an option. I AM wondering though, would like... one of them laundry bag things to put your undies in when they go in the machine help? I have never used them but they are a thing I know exists for bras so why not knickers?
FluffyFaeCat
Don't know about panties anymore but my fruit of the loom boxers are holding up pretty well
FluffyFaeCat
I will also say that hanging to dry does increase the lifespan of clothing
VaultSicle
I've been getting decent results with fruit of the loom undies
Flash Bastard
We have a bra bag... and I 1000 percent do not have the patience to sort through the dirty-underwear bag to bag them up. XD
Flash Bastard
Thanks for the input, guys!
Flash Bastard
(And yeah, we do hang Quinn's work clothes to dry. Honestly never occurred to me to try with underwear. Don't think it occurred to them either.)
Flash Bastard
sailor bii
fruit of the loom is definitely the way to go
