...I'm uncertain how to feel about this.

So, like, one of my favorite game system publishers is basically broke

like, to the point where they basically sold the rights their most popular franchise to an MMO producer with the caveat that they can make books set in that system basically whenever they want. (Worth noting that, in the 14 or so years since this sale happened, they've put out about that many books, and almost none within the past decade.)

Their most recent items for sale have been just, like, pdf conversions of older books from the 80s and 90s or things like "Create a character" card decks.

(Part of the issue being that their big franchise is tied into almost every other setting they've published.)

The MMO is, of course, not that popular. Like "Maintains a standard population of about three hundred players at any given time" unpopular.

Anyhow, last year they announced that they'd be letting anyone publish books using their system and specific parts of their setting, s'long as their cut is ~50% (forget exactly how much) of that the players get after the store takes their cut.

And most people are, like, y'know. Putting out either short adventures or garbage books that're cheap cash grabs (Such as "Here's a bunch of pre-made characters to use!" that are extremely thinly veiled Marvel and DC characters sloppily converted to use in that system)

And then there's

(Which, admittedly, boasts a brand new, never before seen piece of art on the cover)

but it's a dude charging seven bucks or so for a conversion of an earlier, classic adventure.

I really love the setting.

On the one hand

I know that conversions aren't exactly the least time consuming thing around

How much was the original?

The original came out in the seventies, so

Lemme see if it's out on sale now.

Because $7 doesn't sound THAT awful to me.

Hmm.

And it's not the price that's bugging me, it's more, like.

The fact that he's basically putting a conversion up for sale at all.

Especially for triple the price based basically on someone else's work.

I think that if it were some patreon or ko-fi thing, I'd probably be looking at it less strangely, but putting it up in the store has me just uncertain of what to think.

Especially since I know I probably wouldn't be saying the same thing if Hero Games had put out a conversion themselves.
