In Search Of A Flat Earth

This video is great on its own terms, but almost the part I appreciate most is the gentle, extremely kind but firm repudiation of the facile horseshit at the end of HBomberguy's otherwise good flat earth video

like, Dan's Harris's friend, he's not here to dunk on him,

but like 3/4s of this video is dedicated to explaining all the ways in which Harris's conclusion was completely wrong

god i forgot the conclusion at the end of harris's outside of "trying to find meaning in a meaningless universe" maybe??

Dan includes the part I hate in this video but it's basically "YOu sense that something is wrong about the world...and you're right! But it's actually capitalism! Come be a leftist!" and it's like, no motherfucker

these are reactiuonaries

the thing they sense is wrong is that gay and trans and black and jewish people still exist

oh yeah...

i do think it's a mix to some extent though.

They are not responding to the same signals you are, and it is the height of naivete to assume that they are some sort of fertile recruiting ground for leftists causes

like there are dyed in the wool reactionaries and there are easily influenced individuals ripe for radicalization

i think reducing things to just one or the other is a mistake either way, especially given The Algorithms contributing to the reactionary radicalization process
