Vyng's gender & sexuality? TL;DR: he/they (plural) pronouns. Cis boy. Pansexual/???romantic
The plural "they" is because druids in his canon shapeshift into creatures with whom they have a communal relationship
You aren't changing into an animal, so much as you're the embodiment of the Animal
(that's why for awhile, he thought of Atsushi's tiger as a representation of all tigers in his world...)
99.9% OF DRUIDS only have that relationship with one type of creature
In Vyng's case, he has that relationship with........all kinds of flora and fauna. As well as minerals and elements
So he has this communal relationship with multiple entities
And we know that plurality does influence how he views himself. Because one of the first thing he does to Tuck and Billie is complain about being referred to as "one"
ʙᴏɴᴇs
ooh this is neat
(Chronologically, that is. When the main storyline starts, they'd already known each other for the better part of a year, and the finer details of druidism hadn't been ironed out yet...)
ʙᴏɴᴇs : RIGHT? I really love the world building in this canon
It would've been easy to just apply normal D&D tropes to the druid, but they ended up running with their own twist. And it's so much fun
THAT BEING SAID, he didn't become a druid until he was an adolescent
So he's also got his identity as just Vyng...and that includes his identity as a cis male
The result is, somebody who defaults to "he". But wouldn't complain at all if somebody chose to use plural "they"
And I HC that some druids probably do prefer plural "they", since they're deeply aware of their own plurality
Individual vs. Communal is one aspect of a druid's inherent duality
In only Qrow and Tuck really know about this. It's not something he brings up very much
But he will, if somebody says something he doesn't like
Sexuality-wise, we see him attracted to women, men and other sentient creatures
That said...even if homosexuality is 100% accepted in the Principalities, heterosexuality still seems to be the default
(which, on a meta-level, I think may be because the cast is comprised of straight people...)
(though someone on Twitter did gently encourage Shawn to pepper the world with more same-sex couples, so we'll see if that changes...)
Everyone ASSUMED Vyng was straight for the longest time, until Paul was more or less like "lol joke's on you, he sleeps with dudes too, you just don't see it"
tbh, some of his early interactions with Tuck can be interpreted as him having a tiny crush...even if I assumed that probably wasn't the intent
But in recent eps, it's VERY clear he has a thinly-veiled thirst for Tuck (LOL)
So it all comes full circle...and now I think it's actually a reasonable way to view their early relationship in hindsight
I say ????romantic because I don't....know
I almost wanted to say he's aro. Because Tuck comparatively shows wayyy more interest in romance than Vyng ever does
And I'm pretty sure he's never been in a romantic relationship before
BUUUUT I think it's more likely he's just never been in the position/headspace for a LTR
> Grew up as an outcast in a tiny ice village
> Probably got his formal education while fairly isolated from his peers
> Spent his adult life alone and focused on REVENGE until he met Tuck and Billie
....lmao for a comedy podcast, his backstory is pretty fucking dark
Anyway, he does seem to get the doki dokis when he falls for Tuck's bellydancer disguise? Then runs away in embarrassment when Billie clues him in (LOL)
And poor Billie's like "oh my god MY DADS ARE SO STUPID..."
His and Tuck's relationship is very difficult to label, tbh, and I kind of love that
I highly doubt they'll ever make it sexual or romantic within the podcast itself (despite Vyng's apparent attraction), and you know what?? I'm 110% okay with that
Because they're clearly devoted to each other, and they're both like "yeah we're raising a son together"
So it's very much a non-traditional family unit. Which is wonderfully subversive in its own way
That said, I do kinda love the concept of Vyng's romantic trajectory being like...
> "Yeah, I'll raise this kid with you."
> "I'm overwhelmed by love when I look at you."
> "By the way, have I told you how attractive you are?? It frustrates me that women don't appreciate you like they should."
> "...OH."
So...basically a total inversion of what it's like for MOST people (LOL)
He's so fucking weird, with a ton of baggage. I feel like it's only appropriate
And it's why I think...if he ever got into a cross-canon romance in it would PROBABLY need to be a slowburn
BIG DAD ENERGY
he's LOVELY and GOOD
He's a good...until he gets crabby with his one-night stands for being too open about the fact they've slept together
Then he can be kind of a dick, tbh. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms
he's kind of a disaster
But! I guess for the purpose of this meme...I'll say he's likely panromantic
With the caveat that, like...it takes awhile to develop, and he might end up skipping the INTENSE INFATUATION phase altogether
Anyway. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

u hurt my boy and.........................
太宰
i'm deeply invested in these characters from a podcast i've never listened to
太宰
also this was an interesting read, so thank you for sharing!
BIG DAD ENERGY
10/10 would ship with if circumstances were different in game
berri merri
Vyng is the best
pfle I ship it too, tbh. Even though I quite like the canon dynamic where it's currently at!
Though I think Vyng would likely take the u hurt my boy and... and point it at himself
Tuck may be an immature 12-year-old stuck in a massive man's body, but he's also surprisingly sensitive
Also naive and inexperienced, with a tendency to get way anxious and hit the "ABORT" button when a woman actually reciprocates his advances and agrees to sleep with him
SO pretty much Vyng's opposite in that regard
Dungeon World barbarians have a move called Herculean Appetites that's basically them raging in order to fulfill some base need -- usually something like hunger or lust
But instead of sex or food, Tuck's basic need is actually FRIENDSHIP and ACCEPTANCE
So he's willing to endure a lot for the people he cares about, and there are people who've taken advantage of that
Doesn't help that Tuck's also still recovering from a bad heartbreak, and Vyng's official bond with Tuck going into Deer is "I want to protect his heart"
Abdul has joked that their characters could really use a couple's retreat. Since they've known each other for as long as they've had Billie, and so consequently get very little time alone (LOL)
So...I guess that's what is for them?? Oh boy (unsure)
