I don't think I've ever actually heard dog wild.

here's my thing, an addition: Buck wild is for situations/events, whereas hog wild is for people

example: the birthday party was buck wild, and the kids went hog wild over the pinata

here it's split along cultural lines: buckwild tends to be more urban and BPOC, hog-wild tends to be more rural whites

Deep Southern: I have heard not heard these phrases for a very long time, but buck-wild or hog-wild

NE US, have heard 'buck-wild' a lot, sometimes 'hog-wild' in books, very seldom if ever 'dog-wild'.

Which fits with the cultural split too; I consumed information from more culturally-urban sources.

"I grew up buck-wild" in Hamilton is the most recent usage that caught my attention.

It feels more appropriate to situations surrounding people or places than to the people or places themselves, at least to me? In this case, not just that Hamilton himself was a wild kid, but that there was no structure or restraining/"civilizing" influence in his life and this was a large contributor to his behavior.

There's a sense of the floundering unsupervised through a chaotic set of conditions.

And also a pejorative shade of "what can you expect when they were brought up like that" seems to come into play, depending on who's speaking.
