Seeing this firsthand was an eye-opening experience, with clouds of ash rising over 10,000 feet (3,000 m) into the sky. The fire was started by a lightning strike, a recipe for destruction during the dry season in an already arid region.
Wildfires are certainly not new but are notably increasing as the heat index continues to rise, water shortages become more prevalent, and climate change rages on.
