I've never went back to watch the older series, but I've read the entire series and kept up with the episodes of crystal when I could. I'm afriad my only epxerience with the doctor is second hand though.

I have no doubt. Sometimes fillers are a great way to flesh out characters and give them a lot more life and personality than the confines of the main story can.

yes, they are also very alone. Even if The Doctor moves around and Pluto stays in a place - lets just say - they're alone in the fact there aren't other time/space guardians in their canon and they carry the weight entirely themselves

True they would have that feeling of being alone, and Setsuna knows it from the literal isolation of no one being permitted to know of her existence for several millenia. Unfortuneatly Setsuna also has the guilt of failing to protect time to deal with too.
