I am going to vote Dem regardless because I know our system is not in a position to viably support a third party choice at this time and I am not here to have Trump get a second term.
However Kamala Harris has a problematic history on many fronts including: incarceration (supported it for truancy cases as an example), police policy in general, and LGBTQ+ issues.
I just feel like there were and are better choices for VP, and that picking Kamala is a move to court centrist and right-centrist voters. That's all this campaign has been and that's all it was back in 2016 too.
I..do think she's at least a better choice than Susan Rice. I mean it's two bad choices but she wasn't he worst candidate which.......is not saying much
I wanted a progressive but I knew we weren't getting that from establishment politics that look blindly at all the anger in the streets and think business as normal was going to work 🙃🙃🙃
harris was def the "safest" he could go considering warren is "too liberal" plus she's a super easy target for republican smear campaigns thanks to /gestures at the native american stuff
honestly wish he hadn't stuck on it being a woman and booker might have come out on top and he's...better than rice and harris... but still centrist enough for biden's ego
i'm sure there are better female candidates he could have gotten but he was obviously going to go for a name that could boost him as opposed to someone people didn't know.
I wanted Warren, but I have no energy left for the discourse. We need them to win it so we're gonna have to suck it up and address her problems once she's in office and press her to be better.
i'm hoping they win not because i think they're genuinely going to be good for the country but we have slim pickings and i'm tired of trump so so much. we just need to keep up with this revolution & continue to push for change and a better government
i mean my disappointment was felt when sanders was officially off the table. i'd have wanted it to have been him or warren & i'd have felt a Bit Better
So... I’m tired too, but I can’t say I’m thrilled that the first thing we’re discussing is her record on police brutality, KNOWING Kamala is a black woman and had an uphill battle to get where she is. I would’ve loved Abrams, personally speaking, but I have to acknowledge the name recognition and the amount of thought that was probably put into this choice
Optics wise, I think there’s a valuable conversation in her track record... but I can’t say it sits well with me that it’s the first thing people(in general) jump to :/

Crystal: why can’t we wait and see? Kamala was the first person to basically call Biden out in the debates, IIIRC– and we as a collective have the power to call Congress (house and senate) to hopefully mitigate the problems we see
poetanarchy: considering the alternative, I’m way more concerned that Kamala is getting more scrunity than her white counterparts. The discussion is valuable. The discussion is also not sitting right for multiple reasons.
I'm not saying we can't, fundamentally, see what comes of. It is a concern I will have though regardless due to the effects I see of that record and policies related to it in the communities I serve. Questioning those positions and seeing where they may have shifted in their stance is a necessary provision to take on matters of concern re:records.
i think it is important to discuss her history as a cop though like. tbh the people scrutinizing her are people who've been highly scrutinizing most if not all the candidates.
Which is while I appaulded Kamala for pushing back on Biden in the primary debates while also questioning her record. I feel it is our due diligence to question matters of record for all candidates.
there's no denying there is misogynoir in the mix but bringing up her history as a DA is still important esp with the movements against police brutality & defunding the police
I have done my best to be critical of all candidates, and my questioning of her is purely from the stance that she is now our VP candidate and thus reexamining her record and positions. Not to mention with the current unrest re: police, those policies and stances are relevant to the over all discourse.
And regarding police actions, brutality, and BLM, the wait and see stance has...been par for the course and has only further harmed communities. it is a record that I feel should be questioned and examined...if only so that current stances and potential shifts in policy can be brought forward now
