normally I would approach a creator if I think it's a flaw/error, but I think it's just a difference in design in reality vs how the pic was taken so I don't want to bother them

I bought suit separates from Pixicat a couple of rounds ago, and I believe the slit in the skirt was like that as well.

the slit in the elegant skirt is a little wider, and shows on the flat hangers on the vendors a little better, but otherwise it's very close to the same skirt (and length, back slit is almost the same, wrinkles are similar, i'm sure she used it for a base for this one).

If you look at the large size of that ad, you can definitely see the slit in the skirt...especially the top row. So yeah, I think the dress is probably slit like that as well.

you can see the "tabs" of the slit overlapping in the middle on the flat vendors for the new one, though it isn't super clear, with the slit having more overlap and i think the pose there has the knees closer together too.

if you zoom and look especially at the striped skirt vendor at collab, you can see that the skirt isn't connected in the middle

The dress ad is a bit misleading, though. At first glance I wouldn't have thought it had the middle slit.
