Kairi is a normal girl who has been hearing about the people going missing lately. It's hitting a little closer to home, and then suddenly her best friend Riku goes missing. She and Sora are then targeted by Falspawn, from the game PSO and are saved by a member of Earth Guide who informs them that they're targeted for their high Photonic Energy.

Kairi and Sora have the power to wield Photons, and manifest them into Avatar Arms. Which can battle the darkness.

Not only that, they can travel into the "Game" and defeat the Falspawn and help rescue the missing people. So it's a search and rescue mission to find all these missing people and find Riku before something awful happens. And it's a journey across multiple worlds meeting the various locals.
