For those new to the audios where is a good starting place?

it just depends on which Doctor. A lot of the stories are standalones

There are ten and rose and ten and donna audios.

And Donna (and i think rose) have their own series.

Oh and I forgot ten and river is coming out soonish.

hoo boy. depends on the doctor. nine (and comparatively the rest of the New Who Doctors) hasn't had a whole lot (because obvs reasons, though Nick Briggs has done a good version of him when it's just one or two people telling stories), so i would say pick a Doctor and go from there!

Also keep in mind that BF has been putting out DW audios for going on 21 years now, so some are excellent, some are eh, and there are storylines that go up to a certain point in the mainline before I think they realized that they needed to be a bit more friendly to new people hopping in.

I would really recommend Eight's pretty much entire lineup because he has such a journey he goes on

Five, Six, and Seven all have really good audios with the TV companions and new ones as well! (and note that some companions aren't in the audios until MUCH later because of their own personal reasons before going you know what, fuck it! /dives back into decades' old role!)

So the route of a Doctor/Companion when possible

to start with, yeah. just to see how they are, get used to the audio format of things, and you can go nuts from there~

they do have some free stories on their site too.

there are also stories told from the companion's perspective (an older line called The Companion Chronicles) and those delved all the way back to the First Doctor's companions and everything! They're fantastic. There's also the Short Trips (which are a bit like the CCs but open to more than just the companions.)

I have an account with Big Finish. I love the Leela ones. And Gallifrey.

Everything of Jack in Who is great; and there's even a Jack and River audio that just came out

Jack has his own set in Big Finish audios with Who and Torchwood

and there's a lot Time War stuff - between 8, War and Gallifrey

and the new Susan audio

Gallifrey is so good especially if you like political intrigue and Romana and Leela. (Who are so gay for one another and nothing will change my mind.)

Romana be a Time Lady and open to such things and Leela seems to be interested in strong personalities

and Romana is a very good, insightful and strong Time Lord President
