i was paging through my tumblr dashboard just now when it suddenly went from showing me posts from 20 hours ago to showing me posts from 2 years ago

it took me a while to notice something was off, people i hadnt seen posting in a long time were showing up on my dash again

i went back a few pages and then forward again and it went back to normal

like i stumbled into and out of a random fucking time portal

...i have discovered that i can sort of half-reproduce this bug

there is a point in my dash where hitting the "next" button will sometimes send you back a seemingly random distance in time

but it seems to correlate with the posts from tags i follow that tumblr decides to put as the last post on that page

if i get a post from 2 months ago, hitting "next" will show me posts from 2 months ago

if it doesn't insert any tagged posts at all, it will work like normal

sometimes the next page will just be two posts from my followed tags and literally nothing else

i havent figured out what causes that

I heard recently desktop Tumblr will now promote posts from ppl/tags u follow randomly. it's way worse than the mobile version tho. it has been doing that for mobile for like. years. so hello to mobile experience but more extreme

I think there is a way to turn it off in settings tho? the "while u were gone" or "you might like" with a switch, type of option

i dont actually mind seeing posts from tags i follow on my dash occasionally

with some exceptions i guess

especially since they no longer hound you with the exact same post endlessly until you manually dismiss it
