[computers] i am in and out but a question for my pals who are better at computers: y'all got any idea why Chrome would all of a sudden start tanking my entire computer to brick-like speeds even with only one (1) tab open? further elaboration within

it shouldn't be a memory issue according to task manager

my power settings changed themselves a few days ago but i have since changed them back, and this chrome shit didn't start until today

i scanned for malware, viruses etc and did a disk optimization check and there were no issues there

have you updated chrome recently?

i just did a reinstall of it so yes

nope, i can use my...well it's waterfox but my firefox-based browser just fine

incognito mode doesn't seem to be different

weird...i thought it might be a rogue extension

i did realise that reinstalling didn't actually disable my add-ons I ASSUMED IT WOULD BUT I GUESS MY BRAIN STILL LIVES IN THE DARK AGES

so i have done that... it seems to have helped ??? for now but i am gonna give it a few minutes to see if smoothness persists

if turning everything off works then it might be one or two that aren't playing nice

i did discover one that got corrupted at some point so i yeeted that one to the shadow realm

so you can turn them on one at a time and check your performance
