Cool new development with our water heater! (It's not broken, no worries. Mildly unsafe, tho?)

So, last time the water heater was out.... the night before I found it was out, I smelled gas in the bathroom. Like. VERY strongly. But Joe smelled nothing, so.... I assumed I was hallucinating, because gas scares the hell out of me and I have psychosis, so sometimes my brain just Does That Shit

But while I was showering just now, Joe smelled gas so strongly that I came out of the shower to a BUNCH of texts of absolute panic about needing to call the fire department and get the cats and get out

And I was like, hold up. Let me see something.

So I find the goddamn pliers and unscrew the bolts, remove the wall section and pop out the little metal outer door (because I have to do all of that every fucking time) and lo and behold, the pilot light is out.

Okay. Cool. I turn off the boiler, wait like 10 minutes, go through the whole process to get it relit, etc.

While I'm doing that, Joe hits up Google

Turns out that this is what happens when you have a boiler in a house/space that's too small for it, really?

And it's not really SAFE. (Unsurprisingly.)

Not really sure what to do about that, though. We probably need to replace it soon anyway with how often it's going out, but while we MIGHT be able to afford a new boiler if we start saving now (which would push back replacing the car AGAIN, but the AC already did that), we'd also need to afford installation, and.... yeah.

Anyway so that's a cool story for your evening.

I hope it doesn't explode because it's right next to my bedroom and the washer and dryer are between us so I'd probably die

OK, so regardless of when you get it replaced, you should at least get a CO2 detector ASAP.
