so naturally, the music tends to reflect that Western theming and I love it

It can also go towards non-Western and does so regularly, but those are still good tracks

And surprisingly sound pretty alright even with the GBA's sound card

What made the Boktai games so unique was that the cartridges themselves had a little solar panel that played a big role in the gameplay and made it important for you to go outside and get some sun

Which yeah I know, going outside and all that and I can't give anyone shit for that because I emulated the games with mods to control how much sun it'd receive

But it's still cool, how Django can refill his energy and how quickly he recovers it is based on the strength of the rays the sensor catches

Patched roms aside, it did sort of hurt the games' accessibility but it was a neat idea.

and tbh I've found that GBA music in general works best when it's a mix of synth waves and samples that don't try too hard. Boktai was pretty dang good about that.

The first game tried to have a stealth focus but that didn't really last long in the series.

But it was still fun for having all these ways to customize your weapon, the Gun Del Sol

A weapon that shoots concentrated sunlight at enemies and is very effective against the undead

also can I just say how fucking tragic Django's life is

vampires are out to get him and take out his family one by one

But he remains an optimistic good boy through it all

He's also pretty hardcore

Whenever he beats up a boss and they go into their coffin, this motherfucker drags their coffin outside with a chain

Out of their lair to direct sunlight where you can purify them

And you purify them with a machine that concentrates sun lasers that concentrate on the vampires while they're in their coffin

it's brutal, but most vampires are assholes, so it's fine
