The fun really begins with Honey's recovery.
ChefKarl
She has been without pain meds for almost a day, doing quite well, but now even more energy.
ChefKarl
She was very proud of herself getting past me and running up the stairs this morning.
ChefKarl
She was even happier jumping up onto and then off of the ottoman.
ChefKarl
one more week of reduced activity, but thankfully no squeal of pain.
heylis-elf
This is great news! I don't know the story of Honey. Was she injured?
ChefKarl
heylis-elf : just over a week ago she tried to jump up on the sofa and fell on her right side, we thought it was her hip. Then on Monday last week, she was yelping in serious pain. Took her to the vet on the 16th and he found it was the muscle on the right side just below the spine, along the ribs.
ChefKarl
So, muscle relaxer, pain meds, and nerve pain meds.
ChefKarl
we finished the nerve pain meds, and have stopped the others since she has not had a squeak of pain in +24 hours.
ChefKarl
Vet said 2 weeks kennel rest.
heylis-elf
Oh, wow. Poor girl. They don't understand pain at all. :-(
ChefKarl
She is a Jack Russel / Cairn terrier mix
heylis-elf
what a cute mix!
ChefKarl
total high energy dog, and yes they do not understand that this is for their own good.
heylis-elf
My Isana is a miniature American Eskimo dog, we figure she's about 14 or 15, mostly blind and almost deaf, her hips are going, and she is living out her life in the most comfort I can provide.
heylis-elf
She was a rescue from a puppy mill when she was about 3.5 and the vet said she'd had at least 3 litters in rapid succession.

Other photos to show that she does like to lounge.
ChefKarl
Honey is a rescue that we have had about 4 years now, she is 5-6 years old. We have always had rescue dogs.
ChefKarl
Glad you are able to provide a good and comfortable life for Isana.
Lexi
awww Honey!! I hope she recovers better than ever. Poor baby. She's lucky to have you ♥
heylis-elf
awwww, what a cute fuzzball!! I'm glad she's doing better.
heylis-elf
Rescue dogs are the best.
ChefKarl
The mix is very interesting to deal with the Jack Russell is high energy, but the Cairn is a little more relaxed and they bond with one human of the pack. I am that human, her end all be all. She will spend hours in my lap and yelps up a storm when I come home from the store.
ChefKarl
We are glad she is doing better as well. We were afraid of spine issues. Our dog Moixe had a pinched disk and lost the use of her rear legs for a few days, that was stressful and 1 month of kennel rest, no steps, no jumping, etc. so we knew the drill for Honey's recovery. Moxie was a laid back Lhasa Poodle mix so it was easier.
heylis-elf
Oh, that must have been scary. Poor Moxie.
ChefKarl
heylis-elf : Moxie was with us for 10 years, she made it to about 13 years old until her kidneys gave out. That was a sad time, but she did make it to Oregon when we were neighborhood shopping in December of 2014.
