[RL] [applying for jobs] since this is one of the first jobs I've really really wanted, any tips on what to do after sending in the resume/portfolio w/ cover letter?
FluffyFaeCat
it's been a week, and I'm anxious
FluffyFaeCat
so is there anything else that's polite to do to get a potential employer to notice you?
FluffyFaeCat
(when I've applied before, I've either gotten a response pretty quickly, or honestly not cared enough when there wasn't one) I tend to screw up in the interview portion most times anyway
Airdra
oh, geez, I feel you
Airdra
I've been kind of sort of involved in hiring before and I've dealt with people constantly calling in to check on things, and...don't do that, it will not work in your favor
Airdra
Some job hunting advice may stress persistence above all and that's generally not the greatest advice

Some places just take a little while! Like in my experience with state jobs, they've got to leave the applications open for x amount of time (usually a couple of weeks) and they don't do anything with any application until the time period's over
Airdra
this might be helpful! All her stuff is super solid
Blue Emus
it can be difficult thing to actually do in practice, but often the best thing to do once you submit an application is run on the assumption that you are not getting the job
Blue Emus
and put all of your energy into looking for other opportunities rather than focusing on the ones you've already put your hat in for
Blue Emus
especially since the vast majority of the time, when you reply for jobs what you get in return is complete radio silence
Airdra
^ that
FluffyFaeCat
yeah, I get that. I've been looking at others. Most of them appear to be nurse (of some stripe), CDL required, management, or require heavy physical labor. so I'm a little frustrated, honestly
Blue Emus
now's a tough time to be job hunting
FluffyFaeCat
(I'd have applied to several of the last group before my health went down but... uh. I know I'm definitely not a good fit anymore)

I know you were just with the post office, but have you considered another civil service exam? Maybe for something more clerical in nature?
Autumn🍂Blade🗡️
Maybe at a state level or a county level?
Airdra
^ That's a good idea; having a current set of civil service test scores can be very helpful
FluffyFaeCat
that's not a bad idea. I'll have to look up what civil service tests are offered and where
