FE--FFXIII!

Friendpatine
Sugar specifically.

FE3H Sugar: Beyond adoring that the characters and their reasonings all have nuance and, you know, actual reasoning you can trace to their history through supports, I really love how they didn't do what so many fantasy games do and instaheal mental illness. Everyone still has their issues, Dimitri himself mentions he'll always have his ghosts.

In an industry that so often either doesn't handle mental illness like ptsd or depression or anything with even a modicum of respect if they handle it at all, that was a damn good breath of fresh air.

FFXIII Sugar: The character growth was the absolute best part of the game. They start as strangers but end as family, and if you're paying attention, you can see it happening in almost real time. They learn and they grow because of their interactions with one another; Lightning's combat lines shift from "Stay out of my way" to "Follow my lead!"

sometime after Chapter 7, when she starts letting people in again, and that's just. /chefkiss/ Also Hope is a complete lesson in character growth and people should pay more attention to that.

Halo Sugar (with a dash of salt): I loved the direction they were going in 4. Not so much Cortana's death (ha. haha. hahahaa oh ow.) but that the Chief was slowly going to come to terms with his humanity, with his ability to feel and emote and how that would have worked in a greater narrative scope. Character growth! ...that got canned because

fℓєυя-∂є-ℓιѕ
idiots who play only for multiplayer got salty about how he wasn't their perfect stoic silent self-insert toolbox so 343 had to walk it all back and urgh.

character development is a good thing! ...shame that they had to walk it back

and all to cater to the vocal minority who still don't shut up about things being "wrong". /sigh
