Oh my god. Okay. Uh. Listen, I don't know how to say "Homestuck is good, actually" and one of the things I like about it is actually that it's managed to make a lot of adjustments over the years for things like language, and various forms of diversity... not without mistakes, but pretty consistently with sincerity... ....without actually changing the tone or flavour of the canon. This is something that I don't think I've ever seen? Really? I see a lot of canons shift to accommodate more awareness on the audience and/or author's part but it's always kind of with a loss of something that's noticeable to me.

Homestuck has definitely changed in a lot of ways, from like, art direction to narrative foci, but none of those ways ever left me feeling like I had stopped reading Homestuck. And it's really encouraging to me as a reader and as a writer, to see that it is possible.

God. TMA is often praised for this, but I am so, SO glad to have a horror podcast that does not EVER focus on real life violences or forms of oppression or... kill off pets, or any of that. Moreso, I really appreciate that it's always VERY mindful of its tone, narratively.

It stands out this season especially, where each episode very specifically contains a moment of humour, and an ending point that does not focus on despair, even as it may be ominous or bleak.... the human element is always present in ways that are never. Hm. Extinguished or crushed by the story.

It's a VERY good way to write a longform, episodic horror story that continues to engage audience attention and maintain suspense without punishing the audience for still being there.

dead characters : Like a lot of people, Monster was my introduction to Urawasa, and I STILL love it today, it still holds up through the nostalgia goggles and hot take but Urasawa has a knack for handling the lack of firm declaration of perspective or events or meaning without ever making the reader feel let down or cheated.
