[meme] Fourth-walling? Honestly, I miss it.
Dragons Dragons
I remember the days when anyone who could conceivably recognize someone else's canon would, anyone who couldn't would find excuses to find out (remember media and even doujin being imported into the RP settings?), and every game had a Lucky Star cast or at least a Konata.
Dragons Dragons
Unfortunately, a lot of people decided that was obnoxious infomodding and it had to go.
Dragons Dragons
And maybe it was. Honestly, I rarely got fourth-walled even when I wanted it, because I mostly play from canons no one in journal roleplay watched.
Dragons Dragons
So I guess it was probably hard on a lot of people who got it all the time and didn't want it.
Dragons Dragons
I've kind of accepted that I'm the only one who misses some things, like app requirements being "tell every single detail about your character and canon and go on for 10,000 words." But I do hope fourth-walling makes a comeback.
Awe
I think the SCP murdergame is the only place fourth-walling is happening anymore, and that's only because the characters now exist in a universe where all the canons do too
Dragons Dragons
Yeah, I saw that and that really made me happy. Didn't app because it's not my style of murdergame, but I hope everyone is having fun.

I get where you're coming from here, honestly

fourth walling is a huge component of deerington's metaplot!

genuine question from someone who doesn't Get It: what's the appeal of fourth walling

on either side

in general I'm not really a fan of it, personally, it just does not interest me at all, but for deerington at least it exists for existential horror, which I am all for
Hazard Kitten
yeah, honestly we had a player in plane who was pretty obnoxious about 4th walling and did in fact used it to infomod

Yeah, I remember him.

Indeed... -_-
Dragons Dragons
superorbital: I like it because it felt like a built-in CR hook at the time; different characters and players had different approaches to it; reactions to your own fandom were usually hilarious; and often, equalizers like being mutually fictional or media showing up in the setting kept it from being something only certain characters could play with m

Some people liked the existential horror aspect, but I always leaned towards the silly fun.

I personally find it a shame that Drama Drama Duck died so suddenly due to the change of attitude about the acceptability of fourth walling, and I wasn't even in it.
Pteryx
I mean, if there's anywhere it should still exist, it's dedicated games like that.
Dragons Dragons
It outlived that climate by a number of years, so I don't think it died because of that, but it's still sad it's not around.
