[gundam 00] random thought, allelujah's plot in S2 was always bad but my coming out as trans has made it WAY worse

because now the only way I can read it is just

Allelujah following Soma around and deadnaming her at the top of his lungs until she caves

It’s truly spectacularly terrible

there's a lot of media with weird baggage about Real Names that's easy not to notice

although I guess in 00's case there's also the baggage of just

Soma being literally a completely separate person

who Allelujah takes twelve episodes to admit exists

it's a bad subplot Brent

The tropes are heavily weighted towards "knowing a name from someone's past/childhood is a sign of intimacy" and away from "it's good to respect how people prefer to be known today"

It's a trope that works solely when someone is like. In disguise. Not when they have literally a different identity.

And I can respect that Al is too stupid and self-absorbed to know the difference but what's the writers' excuse
