Rᴀɪɴᴇs
final fantasy

- I hate FFXIII mostly because it tries too hard to be deep by using overly complicated terms for really easy concepts. Call the Fal'cie demigods. Call the I'Cie The Branded, call the Cieth's the Fallen/Failed. USE SIMPLE WORDS TO EXPLAIN.
That being said, I love Snow and Serah and sort of hate that I do. S-sob.
lucineblue
- FFVIII actually isn't so bad if you just don't take it seriously; also if you enjoy breaking games over your knee, it's the best one to do so if you like childrens card games.
zoki.
yes
SHSLPathologist
also, maybe don't use so many flashbacks and reliance on people to look into documents in your menu to see what terms are
SHSLPathologist
(FFXIII)
lucineblue
oh yeah, that too. Mind FFXII did that as well, but it also used words that MADE SENSE.
SHSLPathologist
I had that with Star Ocean, but at least I could play the game without giving a damn
lucineblue
and had Vaan being naive so he could have things explained to.
SHSLPathologist
yeah, a naive characters helps, but all the characters at like 'this this and this'
zoki.
but yeah, the complicated terms are in part the localization team's fault, wanting to top previous entries to make the terms more original than before
zoki.
(though l'cie was in the japanese version)
Kaysper
Sometimes you just want the path to ultimate power and breaking the game in half to be by playing a children's card game.
lucineblue
zoki. : ... are you serious? they made up this terms?
lucineblue
Kaysper : see? you get me.
lucineblue
... /glances at her ffviii original copy on pc...
zoki.
usually the localization teams come up with the terms for summons and various other related concepts...the japanese versions tend to use the same terms for every entry in the franchise
zoki.
or at least that's what the ff wiki told me
ex-arch
l'cie and fal'cie
zoki.
no those were from the japanese
zoki.
the others
ex-arch
were in japanese
ex-arch
that
ex-arch
ENter key
ex-arch
that's what i was gonna say
ex-arch
in japanese ceith were 'cie corpses'
lucineblue
SEE
lucineblue
WHY NOT USE THAT
SHSLPathologist
hmm, does it have anything to do with the reanimation work for syncing?
SHSLPathologist
that's the only reason i could think they might go for shorter, awkward terms
SHSLPathologist
they only reworked the mouths from my understanding, but not whole scenes so
zoki.
the FFX localization similarly changed the terms, though some of the originals were mouthfuls
SHSLPathologist
I mean, none of this changes that the story was a bit... /flails hands
zoki.
Haha yeah
lucineblue
//sobs into hands
lucineblue
I'm getting sick of overly complicated god bullshit
SHSLPathologist
but Jo, all games, you must punch a god in the face
SHSLPathologist
that's literally SMT
lucineblue
No no, I don't mind punching god in the face.
lucineblue
What I mind is ridiculous complication in stories mistaking for depth of meaning
Kaysper
I just like punching god in the face to be, y'know, thematically resonant with whatever the story is trying to say. And doesn't require a dictionary for me to parse it.
Kaysper
Funny enough X has the Al-bhed primers, but I don't consider those being essential to the story. They were more of a fun replay translation bonus.
