The more I think about it, the more I think BJ is the kind of guy who graduates, is happy for 0.5 seconds, then gets freaked out and murders someone in order to go back to that comfortable life.
and the big one was the belief that the barge institutionalises people so they can't go back to their horrible worlds where being horrible was a way of surviving.
