IMHO, Ready Player One is much more tolerable as a movie because the book was way too much into its references.

I like the little details in the movie. The Sanrio characters in the background, Tracer, little things that talk about references APART from things in the 80s

oooh

I heard they had to adjust the little Easter eggs for the movie

It's on Netflix now!

Dɪɴɢɢᴀ
I saw!

I was gonna watch it but I need to leave in half an hour so maybe not the best time...

I mean both have their merits, TBH. The movie is just more OH this is trendy now let's have Halo characters and make a few dozen pop-culture references. Give it like 20+ years and people'll be like it's so 2000's. Plus, in a movie you can get the visuals and licenses for specific things you can't in a novel.

Plus in a movie you can gloss over things and take liberties - I mean Wade doesn't been go to school and the change so much. The reason there is so much focus on the 80's is because these people have let the world get so bad that they have to live their lives in VR chasing after the keys Halliday left behind. Halliday being someone that couldn't stop

focusing on the past and living in moments where he made mistakes or was happy - spirialing in a nostalgia trap and forgetting to move forward, grow and change...

I just got done watching it. Super shaky start, gets better when the opening voiceover backs off, and everything from the Overlook sequence onward when the supporting cast start to shine is utterly watchable and really very fun.

I love H and Toshiro.

Simon Pegg was a freaking gem (as he always is, let's be real).

It's a fun watch, yeah!

True! They didn't have the school stuff in there from the books! I did like that bit of worldbuilding.

Kinda makes me wonder what I'd end up doing in the Oasis... probably try and make a killing designing weapons for people (ha, a killing)
