It's a really weird place. It's basically shaped like a bowl, too. Not a lot of natural drainage system because the bulk of the city resides on what is basically former swamp land that got paved over. So that's why the flooding from Katrina was so devastating - there was literally nowhere for the water to go, so it just sat there.
