Yes, short term financial devastation will happen. But if the virus stops society for the long term, multiple economies will head into a recession, possibly greater than in 2008.

I'm so sorry but I think it is best to take drastic action like that our government is too weak to be decisive like that unfortunately. I hope you manage to find plenty to keep you occupied and that your anxiety reduces.
