do you ever think about how dragon quest created the single best jrpg theme

but they'll never be as good

honestly this is also the best version of it

I've listened to 11's theme, and it's good but it doesn't have quite the same oomph as this one

DQ8's just SLAMS into you with adventure

god I really need to play 8, 11 gave me a fever

8 is one of my favorite rpgs ever

I think my general impression of more recent Dragon Quest is that it’s kinda like really good JRPG comfort food, where it treads mostly familiar beats and doesn’t do anything too wild but it’s really good at doing what it does

I mean obviously that’s unfair to the larger series because 4 did some absolutely crazy shit and 5 seems kind of wild too

DQ4 is a wild game in terms of "a NES game had WHAT in it"

Like I read a LP of it and I was kinda blown away by the perspective switches including a chapter where you play a goddamn item shop simulator on the NES
