It's almost depressing how many more views you get, and how much more quickly it happens, when you talk about something current.

Everyone's noticed it as a problem, people are trying to talk about what they like no matter how relevant it is or not, but there's still that obvious widespread need for the now.

On the bright side, it can work in reverse. My Tatami Galaxy video got a view spike when Eizouken started airing.

It's so apparent in the algorithms too, things that people love just don't get the views or income people need to sustain themselves, compared to the mainstream go-tos

Yeah. The algorithms have many, many flaws, and this is the most obvious.

I would kind of like a repeat of my Ascendance of a Bookworm video that topped out at over 60,000 views, though. Most of my stuff ends up in the hundreds.
