Everyone in the office: PANIC!!!!! WHAT IS THE SURPRISE?! OH GOD ARE WE BEING FIRED????!??!
(spoilers we're not being fired.)

But it's amazing what is suppose to be a fun email is freaking everyone out.

Pretty sure what it is. Someone is retiring next month and not everyone knows and the higher ups asked me to buy a bunch of champagne and a cake that he likes for tomorrow's

Yeah places need to label that stuff. Like it could be "We have a suprise for Employee Apperication" or something generic like that

So I'm pretty sure we're just going a quick official announcement of his retirement

but also champagne at work sounds fun. o.o

Never do surprises in an office setting. No one likes surprises even good ones in office settings

Champagne and wine. Mostly an excuse for one of the higher ups to have wine because they have a problem

but yea, just label it something generic that sounds nice and doesn't give away the full surprise.

and add a fun graphic of glasses clinking in a toast

Yeah. A vauge fun surprise is not enough

people will assume from that that it's going to be free food and be excited vrs freaked out

because "fun surprise" could totally be "all of you are going to be able to spend a bunch of time with your families starting immediately! and we have complimentary boxes to get you started!"

Yeah, I mean the last time they did a massive lay-off they just said everyone come into the meeting room now.

They have never once given bad news by telling people to meet in the lunch room and never with the word surprise

Even when they hired the overseas staff that lead to the original lay offs they told us in the meeting room with no prior warning. Just we're having a meeting now

They did word it as good news even as we all sat there going: oh shit

But that again wasn't in the lunch room
