i really wonder what these people who say it's not a love story see when they watch the show. Do they not infer things? Read between the lines? I mean. Tennant and Sheen are such good actors, i can clearly see Crowley and Zira and how much they care for each other
But I feel like the hardest two are 'Death gets fired and literally the whole plot is about the repercussions' and 'Death takes an apprentice, who falls for Death's adopted daughter.'
Seriously. This series is such a damn love story, I was just mildly like "Ok, yeah, they're cute, I could ship them" while watching it, and then "You go too fast for me, Crowley" happened, and I literally had to stop the video so I could "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH!" because OH SHIT. OH SHIT I'M NOT IMAGINING THIS SHIT IT'S REAL"
the thing where their hands touched when they passed over teh bag of books. How Zira didn't want to give Crowley holy water until it became clear he was being reckless about getting it
Pay attention to Crowley. He's preening and feeling good about getting to be the hero, and he's getting thanked by Aziraphale, even if he tries to pretend he doesn't want it. He's smiling and a little shoulder-wiggly in happiness. And then Aziraphale stops thanking him and just goes right back to worrying about his books, and yeah, he still is like
Aziraphale isn't paying him attention anymore, he's not fawning at him and he's back to worrying about his books and for a split second he'd almost thought maybe the Angel would have realized why he'd been trying to save him all these times, but nope. Books again.
The happy fuzzy feelings are over and it's back to "oh dear my books are the most important thing to me and you are just my friend" and by the time Aziraphale goes /SURPRISED PIKACHU/ he's already walking away to the car, so he probably doesn't even notice him having his epiphany.
Honestly, I do have so many feels about Crowley's little beaming happiness moment when Aziraphale thanks him in the rubble, 'cause the poor boy probably had little worries that he wasn't going to be happy to see him once things had settled down, but he'd done it anyway, but oh. Oh, look, he doesn't hate me anymore, it's ok again ;w;
XD People have been pointing out on tumblr recently how both scenes at the Ritz, Aziraphale is making suggestions about things, but the first one, he's trying to be coy about it because Rules, but the final scene, he's just being blatant about it, like "I absolutely love your pretty, stupid face!" and I kind of love it.
Just the tense, darting-eyed, shy look he's giving Crowley when he's doing the neck-stroke-of-longing is another of those subtle looks that Michael's so great at. XD He's pretending to be oblivious, but he's kind of bad at it.
Uriel: your boyfriend in the dark glasses Aziraphale: MY BOYFRIEND! ........wait shit they're threatening me ahahahaha I mean what boyfriend I don't have a boyfriend.
Though honestly, with that particular line, I'm never quite sure if it's just because Aziraphale really is kind of boggled by the slang or actually trying to deflect.
But then there are other times when he shows that he knows exactly what's being discussed/what the context is, but is pretending to be all antiquated and old-fashioned just for the appearance of the thing, so who even knows.
At the bandstand, crowley said "So do you have annything? Figured out the antichrist's name, address, and shoe size?" and he goes "Shoe size? Why would I know that?!?" and he's just like "...>8| It's a joke, I don't know."
Like. It's obvious in the very first scene that he doesn't catch the sarcasm when Crowley goes "Ohhh, you're an angel, I don't think you could do the wrong thing." but then you'd think that after 6,000 years, he'd be fluent enough in Crowley to catch it when he was just being snarky.
Yeah, just different variations in interpretation. Honestly, that's part of what makes their performances so good. They're so subtle about it, but also not?
Reminds me of the story Neil told somewhere about how they were between scenes but hadn't cut their mics, and he was listening in with his headset and suddenly, randomly heard David just ripping into Michael, teasing him, mocking him, stuff like that. And he was just like and all confused! Only to realize that Michael was
and the only reason that worked i think is because Paul McGannGood Omens the series: ROMANTIC VIOLINS
Aziraphale: MY BOYFRIEND! ........wait shit they're threatening me ahahahaha I mean what boyfriend I don't have a boyfriend.
