the reason the unicorn is a major combatant, despite being largely a support/ranged based power set in and of itself

(typically seeks out hosts with some immutable sense of ???something, and arming them with stuff like lances or bows, and the one armour set so far with healing powers)

is bc they're the only suit capable of actually curing people who get corrupted by Bad Ideas

i know i planned on the unicorn's user getting disabled later down the line and therefore unable to use it, hence STORY ESCALATION, but i didn't have a reason why it was so bad

typically the suits will pick several people over time, when the previous ones get too injured/traumatised/tired/dead to continue, bc this is not a recent system

probably like 20 years old? most of the protags grew up with it as Normal, i think

the Phoenix is a nightmare in that regard, bc they constantly demand change and is somewhat picky

wait no, the Kelpie would be worse about that

bc their thing is literally transience

(appropriately, their user is genderfluid)

(this is why wil has lasted so long as its user)

the Phoenix goes through a lot but that's more bc their thing is Reckless Idiots

the Dragon and Unicorn are the pickiest, the unicorn moreso, and in their existence has only gone through like <5 users

Bailey's been at this for years now, he's one of their de facto team leaders just from sheer experience

Eileen is the other bc the Griffin demands Actually Competent people
