Oh god, spending some time all to myself just playing games on the new computer was definitely something I needed.
GW Wolf
GW Wolf
yay!
Shannanners
I've been stressed about like. EVERYTHING. And just needed some time to be a dork.
Shannanners
:-D Hugs to you, friend!
yulie
ooo whatchu playin
Shannanners
I jumped between a few things, but mostly just spent the time playing a new Terraria file.
Spookitty
I joke that sometimes I just need a couple hours of unholy slaughter to get my head in gear. I love the full moon secret levels in Dungeon Keeper (an oldie but goodie) where the goal is to slaughter your imps, often by slapping them to death before a time limit runs down.
Shannanners
Honestly this sounds like a fun time XD
Spookitty
The slapping mechanic is supposed to be used to "encourage" minions to work harder/faster.
Shannanners
hkldshlgihlwhkhg OMG.
Game: Encourage them to work faster!
You: I'm gonna do a murder.
Spookitty
Dungeon Keeper is a gem. GOG has it for a song, too. It's basically a building game where your job is to populate dungeons with the intent to eliminate all those pesky heroes that keep you from dominating everywhere you want.
Spookitty
One of the problems you run into is keeping your Dungeon Mistresses busy so they don't decide to use the torture chambers on each other.
Spookitty
It's their favorite downtime activity, but being tortured does cost health...
Spookitty
Like most games where you play as the evil overlord, it has some wonderful comedy aspects, even if it's really just a reverse dungeon crawl.
Spookitty
Shannanners
I put it on my wishlist so I don't lose it!

I am a fan of dungeon crawls, to be fair! Also I think this is the first game I've seen in a loooong time that lets you play an evil overlord?
Spookitty
There's a sequel, but I haven't played that.
Spookitty
Disgaea has that premise in most of the games.
Spookitty
But yeah, playing unrepentant evil characters does tend to make for a hard sell outside comedy games.
Shannanners
Oh yeah! I'd say D1DS was the last one I had with that premise, too. I'm playing D5, too, but it isn't an evil overlord sim.
Spookitty
The whack-an-imp levels require you to play on a date corresponding to a full moon, so that can be annoying. It was an easter egg thing.
Spookitty
D5 is the one with the sardines! right?
Spookitty
I have to really think to remember that most of the Disgaea plots existed.
Shannanners
Ohhhh!

Nope! That's D4. D5 is 'Save all the netherworlds from Void Dark'
Spookitty
Oh...
Spookitty
I didn't get far in that one.
Spookitty
I usually get distracted by leveling.
Spookitty
(I was amazing at making my characters automatically level for hours playing tag the chocobo in OG FFT)
Shannanners
LOL. I spent sooooo long rolling around waiting for the item world to open up because I have waaaaay too much fun item worlding. Just. I love it. I ended up over-leveled because of it. I've not finished the game yet, because pokemon came out, but you know!
Spookitty
One of these years I need to actually do reverse-pirating for a bit.
Spookitty
Besides, how can you not love a game that has exploding penguin demons, dood?
Spookitty
I have had a lot of games over the years that are in my collection because sometimes I just need distraction from reality.
Shannanners
Lol, I forget what reverse pirating is.

Right???? It's a good game. Also an amaaazing timesink.
Shannanners
Mm! Same here. I have some that work good for calming down my anxiety, or helping me destim from specific types of stimuli.
Spookitty
It's where you get play as the pirates invading other Item Worlds.
Shannanners
Oh! I don't think I've done that yet!
Spookitty
You have to collect the ships.
Spookitty
And it's time-limited goals.
Shannanners
Omg. I'm looking forward to that!
Spookitty
NIS is great for giving you so much you forget there are things you probably should be doing. It's one of the reasons I have an entire Pandora station dedicated to the mix of artists I like to listen to while grinding.
Shannanners
I am a silly who listens to podcasts while I grind, ahaha!
Spookitty
The big thing with reverse pirating is that bug with all the sneakers gets even more important.
Shannanners
I don't think I've been made aware of that bug!
Spookitty
The mothman type is really good for traversing item worlds because of its ability to "fly" which mostly negates height differences getting in the way.
Spookitty
You use one to dash for gates.
Shannanners
Omg. That's beautiful.
Spookitty
But you need to also get a high move, and possibly some decent throwers.
Spookitty
It's one of those niche strategies my evil twin and I found on GameFaqs over the years.
Shannanners
Bless this. I forget what niche strategies I used to use for things, but I recall like, doing something that made my angelic hosts and mages super powerful? But that was on D1DS.
Spookitty
There's also some tricks with merging ayes to overpower nays, but I'm blanking on the specifics.
Shannanners
I'll have to look those up! I think I did that in D1DS, but I am unsure if that is still a thing in D5?
Spookitty
The finesse alters a little, but NIS seems to like allowing certain amounts of broken mechanics.
Shannanners
Oh yeah. Like. Honestly I think they know it's one of the things that makes the games so fun?
Spookitty
That and the irreverent gamer humor.
Spookitty
Rhapsody (a playstaion one game) had a moment where I fell out of my seat laughing right as we were heading towards the big showdown because of a fourth-wall breaking statement shouting that "I'm the hero, me, the one with the controller!"
Shannanners
jdgshksdghuwgwhg
Shannanners
I think I have the DS version of the game?
Shannanners
I think I mostly didn't get very far because I wanted to punt the MC through a wall.
Spookitty
I've seen the DS. They totally changed the combat mechanics, which is kinda sad.
Spookitty
Yeah, she's...SOMETHING.
Shannanners
I have way less patience for 'I LOVE THIS PRINCE I ONLY MET ONCE!!' sorts than I did as a kid XD
Spookitty
I have a partly conceived story idea that focuses on an insurance adjuster in a world with superheroes. At least one of my lawyer relatives thinks you probably could use an act of god clause to get out of paying if Thor smooshed your building.
Spookitty
So, yeah, I have no patience for certain overdone tropes.
Shannanners
jsgjkhguwge that's the best.
I like to play a lot with overdone tropes, but when they're played straight I usually just can't pay attention?
Spookitty
"That's the fifth time the kaiju have stepped on your cafe, have you considered relocating?"
Shannanners
(rofl)
Spookitty
Because these are the things you notice if you watch/read enough of those general types of canons.
Spookitty
The giant mecha/kaiju fight WILL happen wherever there are skyscrapers to knock into, so maybe someone should think about concentrating population differently?
Shannanners
Yeah. And, like. One thing I enjoy is when people take the logical aproach to world building and go 'hey SO! How does this work to the little people?'
Spookitty
So someday, when I actually figure out what the character is actually like instead of just a Johnny Dollar knock-off, I'll probably write the "God With a Little G" as a short.
Shannanners
lsdkfhksldhlghwelghweg Please do ping me when you do!
Shannanners
Also: Johnny Dollar in a world with kaiju is an amazing idea.
Spookitty
It's been on the back burner for a while. Mostly because I'm not sure I really want to get lost researching contract law and general insurance riders.
Shannanners
Honestly? This is valid.
Spookitty
On one hand, my cousin thought it was a hillarious and potentially valid interpretation that would depend on exact wording and whether the godly status of said individual was in question.
Spookitty
On the other? I'd have to have the exact wording.
Shannanners
You know, I bet there's probably at least one lawyer following you on Plurk? If so, you can ask them for advice.
Spookitty
Most lawyers are wary of giving that kind of advice because it's ethically murky.
Spookitty
And I'd need one who works with that element of contract law, and they're really squirrely about saying anything that might be considered billable.
Spookitty
Anyways, I need to sleep. I have to see The Play That Goes Wrong in like twelve hours.
Shannanners
Ahhh! That makes a lot of sense to me.

Have fun!! And sleep well, dream well!
