Yeah. On the status bar it does tell you what floor you're on and it goes up by one every room you enter, so it's every one of those you get 12 gold

It can actually give you a couple of hundred gold pretty easily if you get it in Act 1 and hold off purchases until sometime in Act 2

Because depending when you get it, it might facilitate buying another really good shop relic, maybe even two, or perhaps a couple of decent cards.
