[family/jewelry] I FINALLY talked to someone today about getting my nanny's ring appraised for insurance.

my dumbass only realized today that there's a Littman's Jewelers in the mall. I don't trust Kay's to handle a 70+ year old 38 diamond ring

lady there told me that they can call in the person who does the appraisals for me and it would be about $150-$175 to get it done, depending on the size of it

pretty fair price, I think, but definitely something that's going to have to wait until after the new year

but something I NEED to do since nanny passed in 2000.

Granted, I was 10 and couldn't do anything then but it's been 19 years, I need to take care of what I did inherit. Especially something that special.

maybe they can even, VERY GENTLY, clean it up since it's a bit tarnished. Or maybe not, idk how comfortable I am with that ring being in someone elses hands long or often

yeah, I'm just not sure how the ring will hold up to it

ultrasonic cleaning is pretty gentle

I'll definitely ask whenever I take the ring in next month, probably

just because I got the ring while I was at my parents and I need to put this in the lockbox in the morning
