The trailer feels fun too, like... the first trailer so hard for dark and gritty and serious, this is the real world meets sonic! but that's the exact opposite anyone wants from a Sonic-related-anything. Whereas trailer is silly and dumb and actually enjoyable, it knows exactly what it is and why we're here.
I still have my deep suspicions that the shitty initial design was to prompt tons of discourse, and then they had the redesign waiting in the wings to swing out as "look, we listened to you guys and fixed it!!!" and then use the 'turnaround' for positive hype
I mean, I don't have any proof that's what happened, but how utterly bad and creepy the initial design was even if you know and care nothing for Sonic makes it having tested well, to anyone, seem even more unlikely to me than the conspiracy theory
also like if they were always planning this they would have released the first trailer way earlier and it would still be getting released in time for christmas
honestly it's kind of a pet peeve of mine that people keep saying that... because there's been a lot of ups and downs in the franchise and it seems people forget every good game every time there's a bad one
I actually liked the first Resident Evil movie as its own spinoff thing, before Alice became a god and the rest of the films took bits from the games just to pay the barest effort into fanservice...
I mean, I personally liked Sonic Adventure 2, and I think that recent one that was kind of a callback to the originals was okay? But I feel like pretty much none of the others past Sonic Adventure were what I or anyone else would call 'good'

: yeah, I can respect that as a personal taste thing. I'm more talking about how the same critics who effusively praised Colors and Generations, the second something less good came out, went right back to "Sonic was never good"
It doesn't necessarily help that Sonic, as a franchise these days has a wild variety of dev teams that aren't consistent and one of the most unpleasable fan bases on earth.
The camera adds ten pounds and also a whole layer of incompetence, both of which would not otherwise exist, is I think what we as a society should agree on as fact
that's part of the reason I think movie adaptations are such a tough thing to get right... a lot of gamers don't get things need to change in adaptation for the medium, and a lot of filmmakers don't take the games seriously enough to give them proper care and attention
But then I know I am an actual semi-reasonable gamer most of the time, and that is not necessarily representative of the majority of gamers in any sense
execs can be dumb when it comes to the REALISM MAKES BANK theory
phew, Really didn't work great for various reasons in motion
like someone said- the old design looks even worse than it Seemed now
its how he should be
