[ciconia] I should, for certain people, do a serious content warnings overview for certain possible readers

who like Ryukishi's work in general but also may have Concerns

so to tackle the big one:

There is not even a shadow of an incest subplot in Ciconia

Over half of the world doesn't even have the concept of nuclear families

Miyao's only relationship with a family member is with his extremely evil dad

There is... one passage in the text that misses its mark real bad on this topic, though, which charitably is either one character's unsupported viewpoint or Ryukishi accidentally sounding like he's equivaocating things that aren't equivalent

It's a brief passage that's in tune with R07's general open-mindedness towards views other than his own that should not be in there

to the general effect of

"If one country allowed same-sex relationships but forbid relationships between close relatives, and another country did the opposite, both would look down on the other as having a less enlightened culture"

Regarding familial abuse/child abuse, there's nothing close to what's in Umineko

Miyao's dad is bad news but like, in an anime villain way, not an abusive parent way

Children are abused, but via being child soldiers

There's a lot of described gore, and some descriptions of in-universe homophobia that's unilaterally described as old crustly bullshit from the older generations

I don't know off the top of my head what else is in there that merits a content warning

I WOULD mention that some of the extreme gore descriptions also involve children, and children tortured

from what I remember of one of the visions shown

oh, yes

the gore happens to young and old

and the body horror is torturous

yeah if child soldiers aren't your thing then that's a cw

how old is Miyao suppose to be?

ages aren't given for any characters, but Miyao's dad at one point makes a joke about not being sure whether he's over or under 18 when sending him a video file

one character is called out as having a very late start as a Gauntlet Knight for starting at age 12, I think the core 24 are all teens

Worth mentioning the sound effects for the gorey scenes have a very sudden scream, and generally sound 'meaty'.

much like Umineko and I assume Higurashi

yeah; hell, I'd say Higu was meatier than Umineko since it was LEGITIMATELY intended to be horror
