Or there are some that are pretty....graphic at times, like the Millennium book series and I would def at least warn on some of the backstory for Lisbeth there given some of what she goes through.
The first three by the original author are the best. There are others by another author after he died as well. It does start fairly slow though yes. I used to have a journal for Lisbeth but I never really actually used it.
Larsson is the original author. The first trilogy of them he wrote being The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire and the Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest. The others that were released way later were by a different author.
I would still rec the Millennium books but with the caveat that they do get dark in going into Lisbeth's backstory and even in the first book before much of that is really revealed in detail that she goes through a lot.
I blame the US film, that was my introduction to the books. The first three really do flow together so well in how well it all flows and connects together.
And hm trying to think on others. If 'this series will utterly break you and leave you in a puddle of tears' counts, Battlestar Galactica's re-imagining would be on my list.
the first 5 seconds are fun but also like. very prototypical 2003 frat boy humor that's hard to sit through these days and from seasons 6-10 is that mixed in with heavy plot so you can't just skip any of it and idk it's hard to recommend
in s6 sort of and seasons 11-13 is when miles took over for head writer and it was great and after that they kinda changed writers frequently and it hasn't been quite as good :c
I also had a hard time recommending Death Note to people because itโs great suspense, but Light is repellent almost immediately, the vast majority of people donโt think the final storyline is worth watching (basically anything after about ep 26), the fandom is overall really stupid aside from some nice art...
So if I do rec it to people, itโs with all these caveats like โyouโll hate the main character but heโs the villain, you might like the antagonist, and the story changes after ep 25/26, but keep watching so you can see Lightโs downfall, I guess.โ
i find it hard to rec leijiverse stuff to ppl bc the visual style is such a love-it or hate-it thing, on top of very tropey storytelling like unless someone shows a keen interest in the aesthetic/genre beats, i know it won't jive w folks
supernatural... i adore the first 5 seasons, flaws aside. of which there are many, like treatment of female characters...... but 10 seasons later and the show has gone off the rails and these flaws have been magnified 10 times.
yeah. my sister is still very much into the show, and i sometimes will watch it w/ her and it's just such a shadow of what it was. even she admits that. but it's finally on the last season.
Highlander.... itโs my Star Wars. Itโs the franchise Iโm rude or die for but it does not stand up to time and between all the different series and movies the canon is inconsistent
to someone i barely know i would never
