Year of the Cat
Just perusing YT and wondering where all the full versions of some of these performances are.
Rent: Halloween - Goodbye Love
Year of the Cat
Also the best thing I heard all day is that Mark was bisexual in the original script ("He slept with half the guys in his film class" ) since my friends in high school always compared me to him the most, so I love that character trait we share.
ALEX NO
I think that's the last broadway proshot that was on dvd.
ALEX NO
Yeah it is.
Year of the Cat
Also it totally confirms the theory I had that Mark and Roger were most definitely sleeping together. When I was introduced to the show, I heard the songs out of order, so I initially thought the reason Roger was hesitant in getting in a relationship with Mimi was because he was gay and didn't want to tell her rather then having AIDS.
Year of the Cat
ALEX NO : Thank you kindly!

I also completely think that Mark is bi and that bit from the original script just confirms it and I'm so pleased. Also the New York Theatre Workship version of Goodbye Love 1) hurts so much and 2) is very Mark/Roger
vampiricist
I actually have a PSL where Mark and Mimi and Roger are trying to work out a thing together and it's great? (Mark's just trying to figure out how to tell his mom oh god)
vampiricist
(sidenote: It's weird to listen to RENT when your name is Mimi)

Rent 1994 NYTW - 31. Goodbye Love
NYTW Goodbye Love, which I adore so much. I love both versions they both hurt in different ways haha
Year of the Cat
That sounds like an amazing PSL. And lol it's weird for me too that's my little sister's RL nickname.
Year of the Cat
Gonna listen to that Goodbye Love version as soon as this song finishes.
Year of the Cat
Oooo, alternate lyrics!
Year of the Cat
Like the switch-up between Mark and Roger's lyrics during their argument. And these lyrics are very, very gay. I LOVE IT.
vampiricist
I knooow like. I love both versions for different reasons but I love Roger telling Mark how amazing he is and ;_;
Year of the Cat
I'm afraid the burden's gonna make me crack./If it does, just let me know, I'll come back./Why is it easier to return to return to a friend?/Then to burn with a lover till the end?
vampiricist
Also
"Love you. Call?"
"Love you too. I hate the fall."
vampiricist
haha don't touch me

Year of the Cat
Gah, this is killing me. And then they tell each other they love each other?? I'm DEAD. Yep, Mark was definitely bi in this version.
vampiricist
"Not as much to lose" nng
Year of the Cat
I do like the tone in this one, where they're sad but consoling each other, but also in the show proper where they're angry and yelling at each other. Both are VERY GOOD.

vampiricist
EXACTLY this
vampiricist
Both are incredible for different reasons so I can't pick a favourite
vampiricist
Roger's heartbreaking "Oh god Mark, don't you?"
Year of the Cat
I do think it was clever to do so many lines where they refer to each other in third person. It made it easy to switch lyrics around to other characters without ruining the rhythm of the music.

Larson was a fucking genius, god

Ngl I ship Mark/Roger... Kind of a lot? There's a lot of love between them
vampiricist
somuchlove
Year of the Cat
Honestly, their relationship is one of the healthiest in the show besides Collins/Angel.
vampiricist
I agree
vampiricist
ps if either of you HAVE a Roger and want a Mark. Points to eyes points to you

He broke down and got a "real" job because paying for Roger's medication is important and also like utilities and shit. Even if Benny lets them live there rent-free and doesn't go back to being a douche, there are other bills to pay please one of you needs a job you guys
Year of the Cat
Pft, no jobs! Can't be a true artist unless you're starving and unable to make money off said art!
Year of the Cat
But one of these days I shall create a Rent muse and then I shall come tackle you!
