Having feeling that are EXTREMELY STRONG when you normally have severely emotionally muted due to untreated depression is not fun, and this seemed like the most organic way to go about this.
I'M SO GLAD TO SEE THIS, TBH. As much as I'm interested in how the conversations will affect Ruby, the real juicy stuff is in seeing how the other characters see this sort of thing. I'm just like. DELICIOUS.
wolfwood did think of himself as essentially disconnected from others/someone who should stay away from others and he's still getting over that but he views where that came from as mostly "messed up shit humans do to each other"
Ruby and several others: Having philosophical conversations with each other about the nature of 'monsters'. Ruby and Catra: Just casually talking about things getting weird again.
Meanwhile, Ruby's been called a monster, sees people with her dulled and sometimes nonexistent emotions called inhuman, and has seen a lot of characters in stories she relates to called monsters so she had it coming in from many side- DO TELL
honestly we don't know too much about the assassin cult as a whole. founded by Plant worshippers which presumably is how they end up connected to Knives, human experimentation in order to help turn people into super-capable weapons
capital-P Plants in trigun are artificial beings which help create power and a lot of other stuff people need to survive in a desert wasteland, the planet basically runs on them. they also (can) basically look like angels
most Plants aren't fully sentient and can't live outside the lightbulb things they're kept in. buuut then there are independent Plants who are sentient and can survive on their own and pass as normal humans. like vash and knives.
Even if she understood it was an insult, she'd just. Shrug. Yeah, she made her own boxes, so even though they're not everyone else's boxes, they're still boxes, and she's thinking inside of them. So he's not wrong?
Ruby: I mean, yeah. of course I would poison them back if I didn't have to worry about the law? Also Ruby: That would be way more work than I'm willing to put into it if I've already survived the poisoning. I'll just make their lives hell in a way that can't be traced back to me easily.
Ruby is technically chaotic good when you let her do her thing. But also she is very much in the 'I see nothing ethically wrong with driving someone crazy or making their life much harder if they do something shitty enough to me or mine' sector that the only thing keeping what she'd do from being a chaotic evil action is the fact she's going at it softly.
Like, before Ruby was trying to be vague, and was accidentally coming across all 'person incompetent at being mysterious tries anyway' crossed with 'someone making suspiciously specific denials', and now she just like. Goes full exhausted teen who is actually processing an emotion and not doing a great job at it.
Like, not just because this is thinnly veiled to begin with, but because of the fact there are things she wouldn't even think would be obvious, but they're cultural things.
On a related note to some of these posts: I am so glad that I remembered correctly that 'you're a monster!' can be said multiple ways in Japanese, and that Ruby's likely to stick even harder to the 'creature'/'other' definition is common among the majority of them.
I fucking love Catra.
I love Ronan. He's so good. Also: I LOVE HIS OUTLOOK ON THIS>
wolfwood: YOU UNGRATEFUL ASSHOLES DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE'S DONE FOR YOU
Ruby and Catra: Just casually talking about things getting weird again.
Plant-cult?
also a Plant:
