First of all, it played it smart by having no tie-in to existing characters. Everyone was new so there was no issue of how the movie would handle them

Immediately with the second movie, they recreate the plot of 3, to the point of including Jill and the Nemesis

but decide to give Jill's cool moments all to Alice, their OC and also the director's wife

and that is a trend that carries through to the rest of the movies: super cool girl Alice who's a goddamn super soldier running on bullshit plot armor and sometimes superpowers out-cools everyone around her

To the point where other characters suffer for it

But that wasn't the case in the first one!

They did establish that she worked security, I think she was head of security? And all of her moments of remembering she's a badass is simply from the fact that her combat training is instinctive and comes through even during her amnesia

And it didn't really shit on other characters just to make her look cooler

Michelle Rodriguez is a goddamn trooper who spends most of the movie bleeding out and soldiering through until she turns

one of the other team members actually chose not to kill himself when surrounded by zombies and survived long enough to bail the crew out of a really bad situation

even the main villain, Spence, who got hit with the same amnesia stuff Alice did? I can never be sure he doesn't remember he's the bad guy at that one scene.

I gotta rewatch it to be sure, but it wouldn't surprise me any

The first Resident Evil as a fun zombie action movie. And so was the second, actually. But it wasn't really a resident evil thing. But that's fine.

I liked the first and the second was fun too. Couldn't completely get into the third and they killed Carlos, so

The second one was fine but because Jill is one of my favorite characters, I couldn't like it too much :V
