[cw: Gross/Bugs] I have to clean the trash can tonight. I have to do this thing. I told myself I would do it on Tuesday and now it's Tuesday. After that I can shower and eat and tag.
sparklecap🌟
I can do this. I can. it is my mess. the problem is the flies are contained inside the trash can so they, uh, breed.
sparklecap🌟
it is the most disgusting thing. the internet says dump boiling water on them.
sparklecap🌟
I super dont want to do this but I have to. no one else is going to.
sparklecap🌟
oh God
sparklecap🌟
oh God I need an airlock and a containment suit
sparklecap🌟
this trash can was supposed to help with the fly problem but it just made everything so much worse
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
oh jesus, I am sending you strength, and rubber gloves
sparklecap🌟
I don't even have rubber gloves
sparklecap🌟
i think I need to go to the 24 hour cvs and get some before I can do this.
sparklecap🌟
but I'm so hungry and tired and I can do it tomorrow, right? after I get rubber gloves?
sparklecap🌟
I threw out all the other trash
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
highly recommend rubber gloves for this
sparklecap🌟
okay. tomorrow I'm gonna put rubber gloves on my list of things to get. Wednesday is my errand running day. I need proper equipment for this.
sparklecap🌟
and possibly another day to build up the courage to do it.
Lady Stardust
a tip: if you throw any meat-based waste away bag it individually as if it were dog poop
Lady Stardust
also throw the entire bin away nothing is worth this
Lady Stardust
but bagging waste will prevent this happening again
вσиє αвуѕѕ ∂υѕт
seconding throw the bin away if possible (bah)
sparklecap🌟
I can't throw the entire thing away. the thought did occur to me but it was a very expensive trash can that I got for the purposes of not having flies EVERYWHERE, because that has been a problem every single summer since I've moved in here. it has done its job in that regard - my daily life (and the cat's) are bug-free
sparklecap🌟
I just need to take the trash out regularly whether it's full or not
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
can you haul the entire can outside before you open it
sparklecap🌟
yes. yes that I can do. yesterday I took it to the trash room, where the chute is, but I think outside might wind up being the better option.
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
nodnod. just remove the whole thing from your living space before you open it. maybe bring cleaning supplies outside with you and clean/disinfect the inside of the bin before bringing it back
sparklecap🌟
I have purchased long cleaning gloves. also cleaning products that "spark joy" so I will be more inspired to clean - sparkle sponges and verbena all purpose cleaner. those are not for this.
sparklecap🌟
also, at therapy today- her: what's the barrier to you taking the trash out?
me: all the bugs
her: what about before the bugs
me: there isn't one, I take it out when it's full
her: ... wait then why do you have bugs
me: they just happen in summer
her: ... jen call your landlord this isn't normal
sparklecap🌟
"if this is happening to you it's probably happening to other people in your building. call them, they need to take care of this. you pay for this."
Un(t)sundered
yeah, seconding maybe clean/disinfect the inside of the bin before it comes back in
sparklecap🌟
I also got disinfectant wipes for this because the all purpose is probably not strong enough
sparklecap🌟
so, yeah. not enough time to address this today before it got dark, but tomorrow for sure. Thursday is bathroom day, but I tidied a bit in there today in addition to the errands I ran so my schedule isn't too borked.
sparklecap🌟
THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN DEALT WITH
sparklecap🌟
I put on my Containment Suit (long leggings, boots, hoodie, rubber gloves, the mask I wear for painting when fumes are involved, glasses) and hauled the trash can, a kettle of boiling water, disinfectant, a spray bottle, and several other trash bags down to the dumpster outside
sparklecap🌟
and then. I did it. I just did it. it was so gross but it's done now
sparklecap🌟
I got like 99% of the gross eggs out of the inside of the thing; the rest are stuck in crevices I will use a plastic knife to get them out but they have been boiled and sprayed with disinfectant
sparklecap🌟
this happens I think because the trash can itself is warm and humid on the inside... I need something to put inside it to dehumidify it on the regular. baking soda? maybe?
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
the evil has been defeated!
𓄤𓆑𓂋𓅱𓏭𓄖𓎡𓏭
you did it. it was gross but it is over.
sparklecap🌟
it was so gross but yes IT IS OVER and now I just need to be super diligent about taking out the trash and spraying the heck out of the trash can lid on the regular, like. I've gotten really good about managing dirty dishes so maybe I can chain the trash with running the dishwasher to make sure it gets done
sparklecap🌟
thank you <333÷

running the dishes and getting the trash sounds like a good idea!
sparklecap🌟
chaining tasks to form habits has been SUCH a good strategy for me
