I think Bloodstained's early game, like much of its genre, suffers from the game being designed around a very broad set of movement abilities, but you don't HAVE any of them yet

combat and exploration both feel MUCH tighter once you hit the (relatively early) double jump

the flow and feel of combat also feel vastly different between different kinds of weapons, so if it isn't clicking it might be worth changing it up

like, I find greatsword and whips exhausting to play as because of their slow-ass windups

but just in case you aren't using it, there's a semi-intentional trick to fighting in all igavania games that makes attack speed massively faster

where there are two things that will interrupt LOTS of weapon animations and let you attack again

landing from a jump will reset you to a neutral pose with ligher weapons (doesn't work for greatswords)

and using the backdash will reset you from ANY attack animation

so if you're using a sword/katana/spear/dagger etc

then you do a short hop

attack on the way down

for three attacks with basically no downtime between them

it lets you liquify things much faster than normal

as the game opens up, you eventually get an insane amount of movement tech, possibly the most entertaining being the Invert Shard, which lets you rotate the game world 180 degrees for you and nothing else

If game is too hard: Grind Blood Grinder Knights for a bit. Their sword and their shard are both insanely busted for early-mid game
