[Life/mute] Nothing bad at all; just been thinking about things lately.
Zilla Fieri
Sis and I sometimes have heart to hearts whenever something's bothering us and our most recent one was last week, when she came back from Florida
Zilla Fieri
We got to talking about the janitor job I'm working towards and she asked me something important
Zilla Fieri
"Do I actually want this job? Or am I going into it just because it's a job?"
Zilla Fieri
Yeah it'll have solid benefits as a city job, but am I doing it just to do it?
Zilla Fieri
What is it that I actually want to do?
Zilla Fieri
I used to silently give my sister shit for being too afraid of doing something new or taking risks, but she's the one who graduated from flight attendant training
Zilla Fieri
Now she gets paid to travel
Zilla Fieri
And I'm honestly, sincerely happy for her
Zilla Fieri
but she took the step forward, took a chance and actually made it somewhere she wants to be, so do I really want to keep playing it safe with janitor jobs like this?
Zilla Fieri
I'm not so sure anymore
Zilla Fieri
So what do I wanna do?
Zilla Fieri
She brought up the idea of working in a kitchen or a restaurant since I really like experimenting with cooking
Zilla Fieri
And I can't even argue it since one of my little projects is finding a ramen broth recipe that's better than the overly salty flavor packets the instant stuff comes with
Zilla Fieri
Yesterday's results got me something that tasted like french onion soup, which...may not be very ramen, but I love french onion soup, so hey
Zilla Fieri
So lately, I've been thinking that might be an avenue I want to explore
Zilla Fieri
Like, actually properly explore
Zilla Fieri
Thinking about it actually gets me excited, so maybe she's right
Zilla Fieri
Maybe it's something I've known about for a while but didn't really consider it since I've been keeping it to myself
bad influence
so long as there are humans on this planet, they will want to be fed
𝒸𝒽𝑒𝑒𝓇𝓁𝑒𝒶𝒹𝑒𝓇🎀
Okay, but french onion soup is amazing.
Zilla Fieri
And even if I didn't get a job in cooking, I just. Really like experimenting and learning more about it
Zilla Fieri
And while I worry that mixing work and play will take the passion out of it, when was the last time I really worked with passion? At a job, I mean
Zilla Fieri
So I'm not 100% on where or how to start going down that path, but the more I think about it, the more I want to go through with it
𝓟𝓢𝓛☕📔𝓟𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓼𝓼
That would be awesome. So... you could take the janitor job and maybe volunteer somewhere like a soup kitchen to get a bit of hands on experience, or use the funds to buy cooking lessons or test for a food handler's license.
SariAAAAAAAH
Given the people I see on the food network all the time, cooking as a career seems to make you MORE passionate
Zilla Fieri
I'd be lying if I said Food Network wasn't part of the inspiration
SariAAAAAAAH
Food network gameshows are the only reality shows I like anymore because they take the competition seriously and don’t pull petty shit for the dramaz. Like I’ve legitimately never seen a reality show with better sportsmanship than Chopped

I will say that on the job end of things, unless your end goal is to be head chef, manager, or owner you'll get stuck as a line or prep cook in most places
Cookie Politics
I will also say that there's nothing wrong with having a job that pays the bills and doing what you like on your own time
Cookie Politics
so my suggestion for right now is to take the job with benefits and have cooking be a side thing while you learn more about that job field
Zilla Fieri
That'd probably be the smartest way of handling it, yeah
