I just want to say as a gay NB person that a lot of people decide who you are based on who you love - sometimes currently. Its very frustrating to have to go 'well, I look like a normal cis hetero woman so I guess I best not do pride stuff.'

Gingo!
I try hard not to let other people's opinions affect my choices. Usually I fail, but I keep trying
Fearyfox(Reyn)
Gingo!
: Same. But apparently a lot of people have decided that Taylor Swift shouldn't have done a song and pride video.
Gingo!
I'm not sure what happened to the concept of 'voting with your wallet'. If you don't like something, don't buy it and shut up
Snowy Stella
Half of the hate on Taylor Swift is based in misogyny and honestly anyone with eyes can see this incredibly private woman might be working her way to coming out????? And I'm really pissed at queer folks who are shitting on her instead of leaving the door open.

For me it’s not that I don’t think she should be able to make a video/song for pride. It’s that it seems disingenuous and untrustworthy, but that likely has a lot to do with how i feel about her in general. The song feels so forced and try-hard and just icks me out in a way i can’t explain, but i am glad for the exposure and hype it’s getting, and her

Hello. I'm really sorry if my plurk upset you in any way. I wanted to just clarify again that I think it's good that it's gone viral and there is a lot of TS fans supporting LGBTQ+ but I was questioning whether the video benefits that community more than it benefits TS. As a bisexual woman in a long term relationship with a man I often feel similarly...

erased but both you and your feelings are valid and I will defend your right to be as included as you wish to be

Donations and all that. It just feels like such a forced production to me. I’m a bisexual woman married to a man, so i don’t have to deal with a lot of the shit other queer people do, so I don’t feel I have much of a place in pride other than as an ally myself. And ofc everyone is free to feel how they want about TS and her video and the song as a whole

: Oh, it wasn't anything you said. It was just a sense that a lot of people are dogpiling on her - not even specifically on plurk, but in general, and I didn't want to hijack your plurk further.

and honestly everything in general!
Fearyfox(Reyn)
Snowy Stella
: Yup, exactly.
Fearyfox(Reyn)
Other Autumn 🍂
: I'm not a big fan of hers, her music isn't bad and some is quite catchy, but its not really my scene.
Other Autumn 🍂
Some of her songs are legit catchy but something about her just really rubs me the wrong way and i can’t place it. But tbh i feel the same about Sandra Bullock and Kevin Bacon and Anne Hathaway for absolutely no reason at all rofl they just all make me feel a way.
Fearyfox(Reyn)
And as it seems most people here have said here, yes, we might have it easier in that we don't get mainstream grief, but we shouldn't feel less lgbtqa+ just because of where our hearts went, either.
Other Autumn 🍂
Well Kevin Bacon i have a weird feeling about because the first thing I saw him in was Hollow Man so now my brain doesn’t wanna trust him rofl
Fearyfox(Reyn)
RoslinPetion: Well, i was sore tempted to use one of my eyeroll gifs, so I totally get it - and exactly, without allies with power, no movement is going to get as far as it should towards making us all just people.
Snowy Stella
Well I'm a big ol lesbian and I adored Me! when it came out and identified with the story it was telling (which anyone with eyes can see) and I absolutely love her new song. I'm turning into a swiftie real fast.
Snowy Stella
Until you criticize her for things with merit it's just misogyny dressed up in a caricature of wokeness.
Other Autumn 🍂
I think this article puts into words well a lot of my feelings about this song/video
For Taylor Swift, Is Ego Stronger Than Pride?
Snowy Stella
I dunno how much credence I want to give to an article that called a bisexual woman an ally. That's a big fucking red flag.
Fearyfox(Reyn)
I missed that...
Snowy Stella
Lady Gaga has been out for ten years. She's been out for as long as I've been. Bisexuals are not fucking "allies" to their own communities.
Snowy Stella
But I guess when you don't consider bisexuals "real" members of the LGBT community, then any semblance of pride looks more like egoism.
Other Autumn 🍂
I am bisexual and because I am married to a man, and therefore present to the world as just another hetero woman, consider myself an ally more than a member of the community. I’ve been told before that i don’t “count” because I’m married to a man, and I’m not gonna try to argue that with a group of people who face a lot more day to day than i do.
Other Autumn 🍂
I can’t pretend I know what it’s like to live as a gay or trans man or woman because I’ve got it pretty easy in the grand scheme of things. Regardless of what term one of the people in the article used to describe Gaga, it makes a lot of solid points that i agree with and i know not everyone is gonna agree with those same points. We all live
Other Autumn 🍂
Our own experiences and feel our own ways, so I can’t and won’t speak for anyone else, but the whole thing has felt very presentational to me, and is just so wrapped in the childish “step off haters” mess that I just can’t like it. But i understand that it is having a positive impact for some and that’s a wonderful thing. Just not my cup of tea.

: the problem with that is A: you are still part of the LGBTQA+ spectrum. B: the Bi agenda: 1, don't get yelled at by straight people for not being straight, 2, don't get yelled at by gay people for not being gay, 3, don't let anyone know we're dragons...
Fearyfox(Reyn)
Which is to say, there are divisions within the whole spectrum, there are gay people who don't think Trans people should exist, and plenty of gay people who don't think Bi people should be a part of the group either.
Fearyfox(Reyn)
There are gay men who don't think lesbians should be a part of it, and the list goes on. So, guess what, you shouldn't have to be married to both a man and a woman at the same time to be a part of it; none of us should, because that's a form of erasure too.
