Characters' Dads... ahahah...
lucineblue
Junpei: An abusive alcoholic. At some point may have been a decent dad, but due to either an embezzlement scheme gone wrong or a project at work completely tanking, he took to drinking to drown his shame. Annd was not afraid to beat Junpei when Junpei misbehaved.

Junpei notes during the flashback in the Answer that his dad got drunk on cooking wine, so he was pretty desperate to drown his sorrows. He apparently got a bit better over time (and wasn't strong enough to really 'hurt' Junpei anymore) but he still drinks too much

Souji: Seems like his dad is a very busy businessman, along with Souji's mom. Depending whether you use the anime or the manga for additional informaiton, seems like they did care about Souji but also... were pretty hands off besides school work, and Souji tried to be a 'good son' by looking after himself and not bothering them.

As such, Dojima's actually closer to a 'dad' than he's ever had in some ways, and plays into how close he gets to the Dojima family.
lucineblue
Speaking of Dojima...
lucineblue
Dojima: We don't know too much, but seems like his dad was probably a pretty stereotypical Showa-era father that was not afraid to whoop his son's ass for disobeying him, as we find out when Dojima tells him how he snuck around to get his motorbike license without his dad knowing.
lucineblue
now, Dojima AS a father... lord knows he tries. He tries so hard, but he's got the emotional intelligence of a brick and is still dealing with grief at the loss of his wife. He gets better at the end when he starts shifting what being a family and a 'dad' means to him instead of stereotypical Japanese expectations.
lucineblue
Mitsuru: Her dad actually was a decent person, but having to deal with the burden of what his own father tried to do to the world, and manage a company... his connection with Mitsuru was both strong but also strained. It's a bit hard to describe.
lucineblue
Him not wanting her to burden herself with their families sins, her wanting to make it so her father doesn't have to bare it all alone... and maybe him not doing enough to stop her, but also not wanting to hold her back and tell her what she can't do.
lucineblue
they're a caring mess, is what they are.
lucineblue
Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask: He doesn't remember his biological father; both parents died in a car crash when he was like, 6 that also cost him his memories and he grew up a lot of his life in an institution/orphanage. seem like he had a benefactor/monetary support though, because how else would a highschool student/college student afford that apartment in tokyo
lucineblue
Willing to say that his parents loved him though, at the very least, but him growing up without a close family does explain some of his awkwardness...
Horny on Main
Maybe his parents left him money
lucineblue
likely, or some sort of life insurance

Jadeite: What are parents? We just don't know.
lucineblue
Seriously he likely does have parents who wonder to this day where their son disappeared to...

Yeah, I have it that Makoto was able to live on her own with a combo of inheritance/insurance, and condolence money from the airline.
lucineblue
Makoto you are living a lot better than I did when I had my first apartment and my parents are still alive

Anime kids, man. (And geez, she has to be really good at math and economics to be able to manage a household budget IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.)
lucineblue
YEAH she needs more credit, so what if schools not her forte, she's an awesome at more practical skills
