[Timespinner] added a few more hours of playtime last night. Some notes:
thetaClysm
background characters in poly relationships is pretty much nbd. Several offhand mentions of this
thetaClysm
Most relationships mentioned by npcs and datalogs, by raw count, are m/f
thetaClysm
one character, who starts as an antagonist but then transitions to a more neutral role, was in an f/f relationship before her wife was murdered by backstory
thetaClysm
Protagonist seems indirectly implied to be bi, but this is not addressed directly
thetaClysm
one character is a trans woman, this fact is only mentioned if you complete several sidequests for her
thetaClysm
(I'm not sure how I feel about the scene in which this was revealed, it reads like a coming out scene complete with "this doesn't change how I feel about you" and I feel like maybe that could have been handled better?)
thetaClysm
the game aggressively refuses to have a single clear "bad guy" side, you are fighting against what seems like a stock "evil empire" but the game explores their history and motivations in painstaking detail, and it's made crystal clear the protagonist is fighting for revenge and not for the greater good, even if she accomplishes a lot of good along the way
thetaClysm
There is actually more than one "evil empire"
thetaClysm
there's a very clear "war is bad" throughline in the story, with two empires at war with each other and tangible consequences for the citizens of both nations
thetaClysm
I bet some gamebros disliked this game for its politics
thetaClysm
oh someone said that the protagonist is a mary sue, this critique is exactly as bullshit as you think it is
thetaClysm
Really it's a flawed but good game that I am enjoying disproportionately from sheer spite for how hard some people were working to trash it
thetaClysm
Not to mention it is like exactly my wheelhouse, a 2d pixel metroidvania with time travel mechanics a la chrono trigger, it's like someone laid a trap specifically for me
